Test II
A researcher wants to test the hypothesis that the correlation between variable A and variable B is
greater than zero. He has obtained an r = 0.21 between the two variables using 22 subjects.
Determine if the hypothesis can be rejected at the 0.05 level (two-tailed).
𝑯𝟎 : 𝝆 = 𝟎
𝐻𝑎 : 𝝆 ≠ 𝟎

Df = 22 – 2 = 20
Alpha = 0.05 (two-tailed)
Critical Value : 0.422714
Test Value:

Decision:
Since 0.9113 > 0.4227, we can conclude there is not enough evidence at the 0.05 level to conclude
that there is a linear relationship in the population between the A and B.

Test III
Find the chi-square value for the following set of data. Then indicate if the obtained value of the chi-
square is statistically significant at the 0.05 level.

Since 3.333 < 3.841, then we fail to reject Ho. We can conclude there is not enough evidence at the
0.05 level to conclude that there is a significant difference.

an attitude scale. Find the chi-square value for this problem and indicate whether your obtained chi-
square value is statistically significant

the 0.05 level to conclude that the responses of two groups of students (education and non-
education majors) to an item in an attitude scale are significantly different.

Since P value is less than alpha=0.05, there is sufficient evidence to conclude that there is a
significant linear relationship between x and y because the correlation coefficient is significantly
different from zero.

4. 1950: Table – 70.2, Equation - -377.234+0.22748(1950) =66.352

1982: Table – 74.5, Equation - -377.234+0.22748(1982)= 73.63136
5. There are slight difference based from no. 4 probably because of error residual variation of 0.076
or 7.6%.

7. Yes, there is significant linear relationship that can be modelled by the equation: 𝑦 = −377.234 +
0.22748𝑥
8. Yes, during 1950 where recorded with 70 life expectancy.
9. No. 1950: Table – 70.2, Equation - -377.234+0.22748(1950) =66.352. There is a difference of
3.484 from the table and from the estimated value.
10. m=0.22748, this can be interpreted as the life expectancy increases by 0.22748 every year.

b. Somewhat low. This test needs to be supplemented by other measures to determine grades.
There are probably some items which could be improved.

Test IX
Since we have 2 paired samples in an ordinal level, the fitting treatment for this is Wilcoxon Signed
Rank Test. A Wilcoxon signed-rank test showed that the test did elicit a statistically significant
change in Test A and Test B (W=6, p = 0.891). Thus, there is a significant difference between the
ranks of students who took the tests. Meaning the test is not consistent as a tool for measuring.
