Madem, C.M. BAVANA, Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Kakinada; V.R. Kamireddi, Jawaharlal Nehru Tech University Kakinada Abstract: Objectives/Scope: The present scenario of subsea operations is playing a vital role in demanding improved equipment and efficient personnel right from exploration phase to killing phase. Due to the ‘combined overburden of deep-water on the well head and formation conditions at the subsurface, the high pressure of the sea floor and the high temperature of the formation impose a stress on the materials and installed equipment's. These hydrodynamic loads severely impact the fact of selecting the kind of ‘equipment to be used. This paper thus introduces the viewer to the present subsea equipment include well heads, XMAS trees, jumpers, manifolds, risers, pipeline system, etc. and their importance in the field prospect. Methods, Procedures, Process: The important challenges encountered by the crew and the operating ‘company are mainly the handling capacity of drilling fluids which are environmentally capable, the optimization of drilling techniques, disposal of drilling wastes to the nearest shore and the environmental loads, production facilities, flow assurance in pipelines, etc. are clearly presented. Results, Observations, Conclusions: The communication between the well heads to the control and riser platform (CRP) in the production phase is achieved by the umbilical cords as these are supported with electrical and hydraulic units. These cords facilitate the production from all the well heads to the pipeline end terminals, further to the CRP's, The paper intends to briefly cover all the processes involved in the drilling & production technology by emphasizing on the functions of each of the facilities installed and their acceptable challenges, Novel/Additive Information: The paper highlights recent developments that include the use of polymers for insulation of pipelines, reservoir robots (Resbots) to examine the conditions of the reservoir, electromagnetic heating technology to extract oil from deep underground to the surface, submersible helicopter models for underwater emergency training, and the latest applications of horizontal, multilateral and extended reach drilling which have been exceptional in the field systems.
