Diagram of the Service Menu

The Service menu allows the operator or the technician to access the parameters of the machine. The
operator or the technician may also make selections for viewing or clearing logged events or codes.
The Service menu will allow the technician to view data for the following systems: brake, steering,
implement and power train. The status of electronic components in the machine's major systems can
also be viewed.

The Service menu option is displayed by selecting Service from the Main Menu. Press the Left/Up
arrow button or the Right/Down arrow button until Service is displayed. Then press the OK button.

The Diagnostic Events menu contains a scrollable list of all the diagnostics and events that are active
and logged on the machine. Refer to Illustration 2.

The System Parameters menu contains the following six submenus:

z Monitoring System

z Engine

z Transmission

z Hoist

z Brake

z Payload

The Calibrations menu contains the Payload submenu.

The System Tests menu contains the following submenus:

z Transmission Stall

z System Self Test

The System Info menus of the 770F truck and of the 772F truck contain the following four
submenus:

z Chassis

z Payload

The System Info menus of the 773F truck, of the 775F truck, and of the 777F truck contain the

To access the Service menu options, press the Left/Up arrow button or the Right/Down arrow button
until the desired category is displayed. Then press the OK button. The following explains the usage
of each menu option.

The Diagnostic Events menu option will show a complete list of all active and inactive event codes
and diagnostic codes.

From the Service menu, use the appropriate arrow button to highlight the Diagnostic Events option.
Then press the OK button in order to access the Diagnostic Events option. Then select the View
Diagnostics display by pressing the OK button. The View Diagnostics option will display a complete
list of codes. Each line on the list will show the following information:

z SRC (Source ID)

z Code

z OCC (Number of occurrences of the event or code)

z If the code is active or inactive.

From the View Diagnostics menu, use the appropriate arrow button in order to highlight a diagnostic
code or an event code on the list. Then press the OK button in order to display the codes Detailed
View. The Detailed View will display a text message that shows the following information:

reporting ECM, identify the "failed component code (CID)". and provide an explanation of the
event..

The technician may clear logged codes one at a time. Active codes are marked with ACT. Active
codes cannot be cleared until the fault has been corrected. To clear a code, access the Detailed View
of the code. Then press the OK button. Finally, follow the prompts and directions.

Note: Only Level I and Level II codes may be cleared with Messenger.

When a code is cleared from Messenger, the memory from the ECM that is reporting is cleared. The
code is not cleared from the Messenger ECM. Once the code has been cleared from the ECM that
reported the fault, Messenger will update the list of codes. Messenger is a interface between the
technician and the machine's ECMs.

System Parameters
The System Parameters menu will allow the technician to view the status of system components.

From the Service menu, use the appropriate arrow button to display the System Parameters option.
Then press the OK button in order to access the System Parameters option. The System Parameters
option will divide all parameters into the following five categories:

z Monitoring System

z Engine

z Transmission

z Hoist

z Brake

z Payload

From the System Parameters menu, use the appropriate arrow button to display the desired category.
Then press the OK button in order to access the list of parameters in that category.

The System Parameters menu option allows the user to display additional information on the
machine. From the Service menu, use the appropriate arrow button to display the System Parameters
option. Then press the OK button in order to access the System Parameters menu. Messenger will
display the following additional information:

Calibrations
The Calibration mode allows the technician to perform a payload calibration.

Payload Calibration

The payload system must be calibrated if a new TPMS software is installed. The payload system
must also be calibrated if the serial number of the machine is reprogrammed. Reprogramming is
accomplished via ET or Messenger via the Product ID.

The Calibration mode is password protected.

System Tests

The System Test menu option also allows the user to perform a Transmission Stall Test on the
machine.

The System Tests menu option allows the user to perform a System Self Test on the machine.

The System Test menu is password protected.

Transmission Stall Test

This mode allows the service person to perform the transmission stall test. While the service test is
active, the characters "sc" will flash on the display.

While the service test is active, the ECM will override the transmission gear to the top gear of the
machine. The override remains active until a setup condition is no longer met or the gear has been
overridden for 15.0 seconds.

Follow these steps in order to perform the stall test.

1. Press "OK" button in order to select a menu. Press the "Right/Down" button in order to scroll
to the System Testsmode. Push the "OK" button in order to enter the Transmission Stall Test.

2. The messenger will be on the Transmisson Stall screen. Press the "OK" button in order to
enter this mode.

3. Set the shift lever to the park position. Engage the service and parking brakes. Set the throttle
to lo idle.

Note: Push the "OK" button in order to continue the test.

System Self Test

The duration of the ECM controlled test is three seconds. During this time, the following functions
will be performed:

z The gauge needles are set to the minimum position. The needles move smoothly from the
minimum value to the maximum value during the test.

z The icons and the segments are illuminated. The illumination continues for the duration of the
self test.

z All LED indicators are illuminated for testing.

z The alarm mode activates at the beginning of the self test mode. The alarm state remains on
for one second.

After completion of the self test, the Instrument Cluster goes to normal mode operation.

System Info

The System Info menu option allows the user to display all of the ECM's on the machine. From the
Service menu, use the appropriate arrow button to display the System Info option. Then press the OK
button in order to access the System Info menu. Use the appropriate arrow button to display an ECM
from this menu. Messenger will display the following information for the selected ECM:

Tattletale
Tattletale Mode is a tool for management and maintenance. The history of the machine can be
recorded by this mode. The main display module records the extreme value for each condition of the

machine that is monitored.

The Tattletale menu allows the viewing of extreme recorded values of critical operating parameters
and information about the system. When this feature is accessed, both the Messenger and the
Instrument Cluster will display these values. Typical Tattletale screens follow.

Tattletale Screen of the Messenger Display

The operator can request a full readout. The following is displayed during a full readout:

z All the indicators that were activated will light.

z All the gauges will be set to the maximum value that was encountered during operation. This
will be the minimum value for the fuel gauge.

z The maximum ground speed will be displayed on the LCD.

The operator can step through the tattletale value of each gauge. The gauges that are inactive will be
set to the minimum value during the stepping. The operator can only reset the tattletale values when
the Service Mode Password has been entered. The Tattletale menu is password protected.

In order to enter the Tattletale menu, from the Service menu, use the appropriate arrow button to
display the Tattletale option. Then press the OK button in order to access the Tattletale menu.
Messenger will display the following additional information:

Active - All gauges show tattletale values. The Status area shows "Active".

Brake Oil Temperature - Brake oil temperature is displayed on the Brake Oil Temperature gauge
(17) .

Engine Coolant Temperature - Engine coolant temperature is displayed on the Engine Coolant
Temperature gauge (18) .

Engine Speed - Engine speed is displayed on the Tachometer gauge (8) .

Torque Converter Oil Temperature - Torque converter oil temperature is displayed on the Torque
Convertor Oil Temperature gauge (22) .

Fuel Level - Fuel level is displayed on the Fuel Level gauge (23) .
