AVR(UVR-7) SETTING PROCEDURE:

AVR LED INDICATIONS

"UF" LED :
This LEDglows when the alternator RPM goes below 48Hz (1460rpm) frequency.
"OL" LED :
This LED glows when the alternator is loaded more 110 % continuously.
"SL"LED:
This LED will glow, if there is no voltage at the sensing terminals of the AVR ( i.e. Terminal
no 7 & 8 for UVR-7) .
AVR POTENTIOMETERS:

Please note that all the Potentiometers on the AVR have effective travel of 25 turns Maximum or
minimum value is achieved by rotating Potentiometers for at least 25 turns.
1. "Volt" Potentiometer:
The Voltage setting at factory is 400 v . If required to vary terminal voltage, the following steps has
to be followed.
1. Clock-wise rotation will increases the Terminal voltage.
2. Anticlockwise rotation will decreases the Terminal voltage.

Voltage Adjustment using External Potentiometer:

1. Use 200k-Ohm 1 watt Pot.( Between terminal 1 & 2 for UVR-7)
2. Voltage Adjustment procedure is same as "Volt" Potentiometer.

2. "Stab" Potentiometer:
Stability control is provided for adjusting transient response of generator for different types of
load.
"Stab"Pot. Setting steps.
1. Run the generator at no-load.
2. Slowly rotate the "Stab"Pot clockwise until voltage is just unstable.
3. Rotate the "Stab" Pot in Anticlockwise direction by 1/2 to 3/4 turn to get Optimum stability.

3."UFRO" Potentiometer:
UFRO Potentiometer is used to set the under speed protection . Factory setting is 48 Hz to 48 .5
Hz..
Setting steps:
1. Run the generator at 48 Hz .
2. If "UF"LED is glowing, just turn it off by rotating slowly in anticlockwise direction.
3. If "UF" LED is not glowing, rotate in clockwise direction to turn it ON & rotate slightly in
Anticlockwise to just turn it OFF.

4. "AMP" Potentiometer:
AMP Pot is used to set for overload (> 10% contineously) tripping of AVR output. It is
provided with 20 seconds timer, which cutoff the generator excitation, if the overload (> 10% ) persists
for more than 20 seconds.
Setting steps:
1. Run the generator and load upto rated current or maximum load has to be applied.
2. Now rotate AMP control anti clockwise until O/L LED glows.
With the above adjustment , the internal timer will starts and the voltage will drop to zero after 20
seconds. To again build up voltage, stop the engine and wait for 2 seconds and then restart the engine.
5."DRP" Potentiometer:
This pot is necessary incase of parallel operation .Clockwise increases the amount of CT signal injected
into the AVR and increases voltage droop with lagging power factor .With the control fully
anticlockwise there is no voltage droop.

6."TRIM" Potentiometer:
This pot is necessary incase of parallel operation .Trim control allows the user to adjust the sensitivity
of analogue input. The trim fully clockwise it has maximum effect.

DO’s AND DON’T s:

1. Disconnect AVR connection while testing the alternator windings with high voltage instruments
like Megger or High Voltage Transformer.
2. Before flashing, generator excitor field has to disconnected from AVR.
3. Rated Frequency has to be maintained constant from No load to Full load.
4. Do not disturb factory set STAB, UFRO and AMP controls.
5. Use only 4 ADC quick action fuse only.
