Psychological Evaluation:
Essa’s Cognitive and Psychological evaluation depicts the following picture of his
cognitive and overall personality functioning. His mental age obtained from the non verbal
intelligence (one aspect of intelligence) test is equivalent to a child of 7 years and 6 years
depicting a higher cognitive functioning. Essa’s Projective analyses reveals that he seems to have
a regressed personality functioning. His anxieties may appear to link with his inadequate self
image, fear of harm and sense of insecurity as well as lack of support from the environment. The
analysis also indicates that Essa appear to have weak control over his impulses which is why he
has difficulty managing his anxieties leading him towards acting out behavior. Projective
analysis further indicates deep sense of insecurity and helplessness which make him vulnerable
towards harming self or others around.
Suggestions & Recommendations:
On the basis of evaluation and informal assessment, following recommendations are
made for Essa:
Behavioral Therapy is recommended to deal with the behavioral
difficulties and for gradual shaping of his behavior towards adaptive and age
appropriate ones.
Parental guidance and counseling is recommended for dealing with the
child adequately.
Essa’s self esteem can be boosted to enhance his self concept through
frequent encouragement and praise and by adopting a consistent pattern of disciplining.
Work on improving parent child relationship in order to foster positive
emotional expression and reduce maladaptive behavior.
The provision of supportive and facilitative environment would be
beneficial to capitalize his strengths and help him to develop his interest in different
constructive activities.
Reexamination is recommended (following behavior therapy) after a
year to gauge Essa’s progress.
