Public Statement by ISI Community

condemning the recent riot situation in
Delhi
The violent situation unfolding in Delhi today is one of the most agonizing and unfortunate
episodes that our country has to witness in recent times. Our national memory still writhes
in pain with the afflicted wounds of 1984, 1992, 2002 and many more such riots or
genocides under the garb of communal violence.

The clouds of despair were already settling in, with the way religion was portrayed as the
central singular figure in CAA/NRC/NPR in the name of citizenship by the government itself.
What followed was the unchecked police atrocities on the innocent students, research
scholars and youth of our country protesting against CAA/NRC/NPR at Jamia Milia to
Aligarh University and others. Essentially, what is transpiring is the end of any Right to
Dissent.

Evidently, the situation unfolding in Delhi today, has simply reinstated the fact that the
country-wide social and political instability is being exploited by the religious
fundamentalists to draw lines of communal hatred in the entire country. The Constitution of
India has given each of us the right to coexist peacefully with equal respect to people of all
faiths.

Thereby, as People of India, it becomes a duty for us to protect our Constitution and
vehemently oppose all those who want an end to our secularism. The need of the hour is for
the State and the Central government to take active and strong steps to prevent Delhi-riot
situation and to protect all the people.

In this time of darkness, we all need to join hands irrespective of our faiths to oppose the
hate-mongering extremists in our country.
