What is Social Entrepreneurship?

To put it simply it is doing business for a social

cause. It might also be called altruistic
entrepreneurship as it focuses on social needs and
tries to help us build something bigger and better.
It is a type of business that, like most companies pursue economic
goals, but it is more important for it to realize social goals. Social
cooperatives are self-funding and for-profit businesses but they
also have a mission to tackle global issues such as:

alleviating hunger

improving education

combating climate change
However they work not only on global scale but
mainly in local communities. If entrepreneur
makes money by selling something – the
company’s customers know that their purchase
will help support a stated cause for example will
pay for school lunches for poor kids from the area.
The main principles of social business
1)The objective for a social business is to overcome
poverty or deal with some problem like education,
nutrition, healthcare, environment
2)The money earned should be reinvested back in
for scaling the business and for improvement to
reach more people or to improve the quality of
services.
The use of internet
Social networking and social media websites are very
useful as they help social entrepreneurs to reach a
large number of people who are not geographically
close yet who share the same goals and encourage
them to collaborate online, learn about the issues,
disseminate information about the group's events and
activities, and raise funds through crowdfunding.
Social cooperatives in Poland
There are over 1266 social cooperatives in Poland. They
deal with various types of services. The social cooperative is
not focused on maximizing profit - its main goal is to restore
the work market by the joint venture of people at risk of
social exclusion who find it difficult to find employment.
They mainly deal with such issues as: education, retail trade,
social services, sports and leisure.
