Youth is the most critical period of our life for it is the last stage before maturity. It holds the key to
adulthood: what kind of men and women we will be depends in a large measure upon the character of our
youth: and what sow in youth, that we will reap in adulthood. It is, therefore, of the utmost importance
that we think rightly of the meaning and purpose of this period of our life.

What then is youth? Someone has defined youth as the springtime of life. Youth is, indeed, the time of
play and laughter, the season of melody and fragrance and color. But his idea of youth is misleading.
Consistently followed, it will lead to one of two results. It may lead to premature adulthood, to the
shrivelling up of body, mind and spirit. For when the forces of youth are not wisely utilized and directed,
the springs of life will run dry and youth will wither into age. The secret of perpetual youth lies in the
proper husbanding of the energies of life-- in turning its streams to water the plains of adulthood.
