aircraft and at all times thereafter (except in
the case of operators having an approved weight
control system).

NOTE 2 The aircraft must always be loaded so that the C.G.

is within the limits laid down in this specification,
accounting for crew movement and the use of fuel and
oil. Retraction of the landing gear changes the
balancing moment as noted below and moves the C.G.
forward.
(a) Aircraft incorporating Items 207(a) and

208(a) - 186,793 in. Ibs.

(b) Aircraft incorporating Items 207(b) and.

208(b) - 195,828 in. Ibs.

NOTE J "System Fuel and Oil" which must be included in the

empty weight, is that amount required to fill both
the systems and the tanks up to the tank outlets to
the engines, when the airplane is in the level
attitude. The propeller feathering oil is not
considered usable oil and is included in the
"System Oil". All hydraulic system fluid must also
be included in the empty weight of the aircraft.

System Fuel 245 lbs. (+407.0)

System Oil 321 Ibs. (+298.0 )
mJTE 4 The aircraft must be operated in compliance with
the Operating Limitations specified in Part 4 of
the approved DC~ Airplane Flight Manual, and must
be maintained in accordance with an approved
Maintenance Manual for the DC-4M.

INOTE 5 All fuel weight must be distributed equally on both

sides of the airplane. All main tanks must be
filled equally first. Once they are filled to
capacity, a~~ additional fuel must be distributed
evenly between the two outboard auxiliary tanks.
Once the two outboard auxiliary tanks are filled to
capacity, the remaining fuel must be distributed
evenly between the two inboard auxiliary tanks.

Except for take-off and landing, when main tanks

must be used, fuel must be used in the reverse
order from fuel loading, i.e., use fuel evenly
from two inboard auxiliary ta~~s until empty, then
from two outboard auxiliaries, and finally, use
fuel evenly from four main tanks, except that
maximum of 25 gallons may be retained in each
auxiliary tank. (Also see NOTE 6.)

AIRCRAFT TYPE APPROVAL Canadair DC-4M (Page 7 of 7 pages) A-84 Issue 1

NOTE 6 Maximum permissible fuel on landing is 1,320 Imperial

Gallons (9,500 lbs.). Following the fuel loading and
consumption schedule outlined under NOTE 5, fuel must
not exceed a maximum of 330 Imperial Gallons
(2,376 lbs.) in each main tank, nor a maximum of 25
Imperial Gallons (180 lbs.) in each auxiliary tank.

NOTE 7 The following placards must be displayed on the

instrument panel in full view of the pilot:

(a) "This airplane must be operated in accordance

with the Operating Limitations of the
DOT ....A.pproved DC-4M Airplane Flight Manual.

(b) Do not land with more than 1,320 Imperial

Gallons (9,500 lbs.). Fuel must be evenly
distributed in each of the four main tanks,
except that 25 gallons maximum may be in
each of the four auxiliary tanks."
NOTE 8
Fuel must not be dumped except when flaps and
landing gear are retracted.
NOTE 9

2 Inboard Engines: 210 lbs. (+263.3)

2 Outboard Engines: 210 lbs. (+293.3)
