AUTHOR -
Pranita Pranjale-Bokankar currently works at the Department
of Architecture as an Associate Professor at Marathwada
Institute of Technology. Her topics for research mainly
includes Architectural Engineering and Building Sustainability.
A PROJECT BY THE AUTHOR -
Integration of Biophilic Design in the expansion work of MIT Hospital & research
Institute, Aurangabad. This huge Operation Theatre complex of MIT includes
ultramodern OTs/ cath lab and is catering to all super-speciality surgeries /
transplantation cases , etc. Environment created is most conducive for patients
and doctors .

3.WHAT IS BIOPHILIC DESIGN? 2
6 elements for biophilic design are:
1. Environmental features
2. Natural shapes and forms
3. Natural patterns and processes
4. Light and space
5. Place-based relationships
6. Evolved human-nature relationships 3

Adding water bodies and having a visual as well as physical

8. TAKE AWAY

● Biophilic Design is more about restoring our connection to nature than it is

about adopting a new methodology for designing the built environment.
● It involves a varied social and psychological benefits to residents, as well as
functional and economic benefits to cities at large.
● More investment in proper streets walkways, can encourage physical activity
and reduce air pollution,.
● Setting up for a sustainable urban environment is complementary to the
designing of Biophilic Cities.
● Though biophilic architecture is an excellent design concept, its maintenance
is critical to deliver a healthy environment and long term value.
9. STATEMENT

“ HUMAN AND NATURE ARE TWO ELEMENTS THAT NEED TO HAVE A

BALANCE IN ORDER TO CO-EXIST.
