The advantages and

disadvantages of the use of
mobile phone in Papua New
Guinea
There are many modern types of methods of communication used in
Papua New Guinea today and one of the example is through a mobile
phone. As a result a mobile phone has a great influence on the lives of
people, business and even private and public organizations today. A mobile phone sometimes known as
smartphone contain various applications and data. This is a wireless handheld device that enable users to
access information and receive calls, which tend to have its benefits in saving time and money. However, a
mobile phone also have its share of negative effects which seem to outweigh the benefits which users have
by using these device.

A mobile phone has some advantages on the lives of people. It provides the means to communicate with
private organizations, public organizations families, and the world of business. Also, there is greater access
to modern applications, services and communication is made faster and easier. Student greatly benefit by
doing researches on assignments and projects.

On the contrary, a mobile phone has some adverse effects on the lives of people in our communities,
especially the younger generation and that has prompted growing concerns by citizens and the government
on the illegal or misuse of the device. A mobile phone is used to spread false information, personal attack
on other people and presumably one of the contributing factors in criminal activities. It can be the cause of
car accidents, marriage problems and social disorder. It is also has an alarming effect on the education of
students. Instead of concentrating on studies and school work, students waste their time on mobile phones
by playing games, watching movies, going into social media and even talking to friends. So by these
activities, it has greatly affect the academic performance of students and some bright students have scored
low marks.

Mobile phone is indeed has an influence on people’s lives, business and official activities in our country
today. The users are enjoying and having the benefits the mobile phone is offering.
However, the government, non-government organization and citizens need to unite and come up with
preventive measures on illegal activities arising from the use mobile phones. So in this way, we will
minimize or stop problems and the benefits of a mobile phone (advantages) will outweigh the
disadvantages.
