Lesson 2A
ACTIVITY #2 Make a Reaction Paper on:
“Global free trade has done more harm than good”.
That is not the way to look at it. Global free trade has to do with the expansive nature of

capitalism. We all know capitalism always has a number of horrible side effects, wherever and

whenever you play that game. However, global free trade goes back a long time. Since the

sixteenth century, my country, the Philippines, has been a global free trade hub and everybody

seems to benefit. Free trade is definitely a source of prosperity and the growing standard of

living all over the world, is a direct result of worldwide free trade.

The problem is that there is also child labour, deforestation, unhealthy working condition,

and extreme inequality. A well-developed democratic society cannot afford all that at home, so

the big corporations export the abusive side of capitalism to poor countries with less developed

laws and regulations and more corruption.

It is up to each of us to weigh the pros and the cons of free trade on our own moral scale.
