Welcome

The Champaign Park District is a special dis-

trict of local government with its own financial
and legal responsibilities. It is governed by five
elected residents of Champaign who give their
services to the community. The Park Board holds
its regular meetings on the second Wednesday
of each month at 7pm at the Bresnan Meeting
Center, 706 Kenwood Road. Residents are invited
to attend and are welcome to make sugges-
tions or comments to improve the programs or
facilities offered. The Champaign Park District’s
63 parks total over 679 acres. Fourteen facilities
are available for a wide variety of recreational
opportunities.

Resident/Non-Resident (R/NR) Fees

Residents living within the boundaries of the Park District regularly support park facilities and programs through property taxes.
People living within the Champaign and Urbana Park District boundaries pay the “resident (R)” fee. Persons residing outside these
districts pay 50% more than the resident rates – “non-resident (NR)”. Tennis Center program fees are not determined by residency, but
by purchase of a Tennis Center membership. If you are not a member, you may participate by paying the guest fee.

Giving parents Payment Information

Although the cost of attending any Champaign Park District camp is affordable, we understand

and children that it may be difficult to pay all costs up front. Because of this, we require at least a $10 non-
refundable deposit per child per session to hold a spot. The remainder will be due two weeks
before camp begins.

This year the Champaign Park District has revitalized its youth softball leagues. We’re expand-
ing to three age divisions and adding opportunities for both younger and older players. Our
emphasis on player development, character and fun remain, but now players will have a better
chance to improve their skills and work on their game. We’re increasing the number of games
by adding a post-season tournament. And next year we’ll begin playing more teams from the
surrounding communities in an effort to upgrade our competitive level as well. So dust off the

Nate Mast/Parkland Basketball
Youth Academy
Ages 6-14 (boys and girls)
The Champaign Park District and Nate Mast proudly announce the second annual Nate Mast
Parkland Basketball Academy hosted at the newly renovated, state of the art, Parkland College
Gymnasium. The academy will offer individualized instruction in basketball fundamentals for
all levels of talent. Campers develop several skills including shooting, ball handling, passing,
dribbling, defensive positioning, and footwork. Advanced instruction will include setting and
using different types of screens, offensive techniques to get open and score, and defensive
techniques for guarding on and off the ball. Different than most camps, the academy will offer
an all inclusive look at a basketball program including a ‘chat’ session to help young, student-
athletes with issues on recruiting, strength training, and player development. In addition to the
instruction, campers will participate in several skill contests including layup, free throw, and hot
shot contests, along with competitive 3-on-3, 4-on-4, or 5-on-5 games. The goal of the camp
is to build a strong foundation in all areas of basketball that will give each camper the best
chance to improve their skills while having a great time learning. Each player gets a t-shirt.
Parkland Coach Nate Mast brings over 7 years of coaching experience at major basketball
programs including Kansas and Illinois. He has coached over a dozen college athletes who have
went on to play in the NBA. From his experiences, he has broken down the essential fundamen-
tal skills that are necessary for young athletes to master in order to help them get to the next
level of their game. The academy offers an opportunity to learn these basic fundamentals, as
well as some intermediate and advanced techniques used in basketball, while still maintaining
a fun environment for kids.

BEGINNING FENCING CAMP

This camp will introduce all the basics of fencing to boys and girls ages 8 to 12 years old. Learn
to move your feet and your blade just like (or almost like) pirates in the movies! We will teach
you everything you need to know about foil fencing and play lots of fun fencing games.

ADVANCED FENCING CAMP

Boys and girls with previous fencing experience can refine their techniques at this week-long
youth camp. Those who have participated in another fencing camp or in one of the Point’s
Cavalier classes are welcome to attend. We’ll play all the great games you’ve enjoyed all along,
plus introduce saber and epee fencing. On the last day of camp we’ll hold a tournament so you
can show off your skills.

GIRLS FENCING CAMP

Girls with or without fencing experience are welcome to attend our first Girls Only Fencing
Camp. Fencing is a great sport for girls that teaches balance, coordination, and focus. Girls tend
to approach sports differently than boys, and this camp will cater directly to that approach.
We will cover the basic and advanced techniques of foil fencing in a female-friendly learning
environment.
