The vehicle concentration is mainly in the four metropolitan cities,
i.e. Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai and thus the reason that
these cities contribute 15% of total’s country pollution.

Along with that, 40 other metropolitan cities (i.e. population more


than 1 million) contributed for 35% of pollution.
Further, 25% of energy generated goes into transportation
sector. The vehicular emissions account for 70% of CO,
50% of Hydrocarbon, 30 – 40% of NOx, 30% of SPM, and
10% of SO2 pollution in these cities.
