BELMONT UNIVERSITY INTRODUCES NEW COLLEGE OF MEDICINE

Plan to Partner with HCA Healthcare

Belmont President Bob Fisher announced the plan to start a new College of Medicine on

Oct. 15, 2020. Its collaboration with HCA Healthcare, one of the nation’s leading healthcare

providers, gives the city of Nashville, Tennessee a boost in the health care department.

LCME, also known as Liaison Committee on Medical Education, is the accrediting

authority for medical education programs across the United States. Belmont College of

Medicine is working closely with HCA Healthcare to become the nation’s 156 th LCME-accredited

medical school.

Not only has Belmont prepared to host a presidential debate this year but created an

excellent school for students studying in the medical field. “I have no doubts that this program

will produce the next generation of health care leaders,” said Bob Fisher. The College of

Medicine already has a designated building site as well as preliminary plans to build the

150,000 square foot building.

The partnership with HCA Healthcare brings many benefits to the new college and

Belmont as a whole. “[HCA Healthcare] offer[s] our students extraordinary faculty instructors
and a pathway to residency and clinical placements,” said Bob Fisher at the announcement for

the new college. “It’s not an easy step, but its’ characteristics of Belmont University to take on

challenges and do big things and do those things well.”

The partnership with HCA Healthcare dates far back to the years of Jack Massey, HCA’s

co-founder and fellow Belmont supporter. Both organizations have collaborated on multiple

initiatives, most recently being the Oct, 22, 2020 Presidential Debate at Belmont.

The new college comes at a convenient time considering the current need for medical

practitioners in the Tennessee area. Belmont addresses this shortage by welcoming an

inaugural class of 150 students. “The shortage of U.S. physicians continues to worsen, and we

share Belmont University’s commitment to address this critical need,” said HCA Healthcare CEO

Sam Hazen. “We look forward to supporting their pathway to be a successful LCME-accredited

medical school.”
