Cisco SD-WAN on AWS

Challenges
Need greater management, automation, and security at scale for site to cloud connectivity
Organizations supporting global users require seamless connectivity and security between branch offices, applications and
workloads hosted in the cloud. They are also looking to reduce their WAN cost by leveraging cloud as a backbone for their multi-
regional networks. Many WAN solutions are far too rigid in design, complicated to configure, and expensive to maintain. Adding to
this complexity, is the accelerated growth of IoT adoption, which is increasing the number of network devices and advanced
applications that need to be managed and safeguarded against sophisticated security threats.

As customers migrate workloads into cloud, extending secure connectivity can be a manual, time consuming process. They are
looking to extend the common policy, segmentation, and security of their WAN environments at scale and in an operationally
efficient manner.

The Cisco Solution

Cisco SD-WAN and AWS Transit Gateway
Whether an organization is just beginning to migrate their workloads to the cloud – or a business is already running applications on
AWS and using Cisco technologies – Cisco SD-WAN and AWS Transit Gateway offer customers more flexibility, security, and efficiency
for hybrid networks than ever before. Cisco Networking extends its SD-WAN technology to manage and automate connectivity
between branch offices and AWS via AWS Transit Gateway.

This combined solution enables native branch to cloud, and branch to branch connectivity leveraging the AWS Backbone. In addition,
Cisco and AWS are sharing network management information to provide a consistent view through both Cisco vManage and AWS
Transit Gateway Network Manager. Customers can connect their Amazon Virtual Private Clouds (VPCs) and their on-premises
networks through a single management pane. Network operators can create end-to-end connectivity between users and cloud-
hosted apps, while applying network segmentation and security policies to traffic flows. Customers can lower their operational cost by
leveraging the Cisco SD-WAN solution on AWS.

Benefits
Cisco SD-WAN and AWS make it easier for network administrators to simply deploy, manage, and secure workloads moving to the cloud.
