GS 462/194 GULF STANDARD 1 2. 3. 32 33 34 35 3.6 SINGLE - USE RIGID AND SEMI - RIGID PLASTIC CUPS AND CONTAINERS FOR PACKAGING BEVERAGES, MILK PRODUCTS, AND ALLIED PURPOSES SCOPE AND FIELD OF APPLICATION This Gulf standard specifies general re: semi-rigid plastic cups, containers and cl a products, and allied purposes. It includes measurings containers and methods of industry. quirements for single - use rigid and losures for packaging beverages, milk of these cups and Notes: 1) The requirements of this specification in respect of product contact surfaces could be applied also to the purchase of other single -use containers such as those of composite construction or made from plastics = coated paper board. 2) The word (product) mentioned in the subject means cups and containers specified in this standard. METHOD OF INDUSTRY The product is prepared by moulding or injection and the moulds shall be made from stainless steel and shall be highly smooth. Chromium plated moulds are preferable. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS The product material shall comply with the approved Gulf standard for that material, It shall be homogeneous and free from foreign materials, swelling, air pockets and industry defects. The surfaces of the product shall be homogeneous in colour and shining. Product material shall not have any hazard effects on the public health and shall not cause changes in construction and properties of the prepackaged material. Cups edges shall be flat and not sharp-cut for well sealing to prevent permeability of air or other things as protection for the prepackaged material. Product closures shall be designed for well sealing according to one of the following designs or others: Closure well sealed by heat on the top surface of the rim. Closure well sealed by pressing. Closure well sealed by twisting around the low surface of the rim. Product closures shall be suitable, such that when the product is filled and inverted, the closure will remain in position and there will no leakage of the prepackaged material. The cups shall be tested bacteriologically according to the specified standard method to make sure tlie absence of any contamination before handling in the markets and packaging. MEASUREMENTS Cups and containers shall be manufactured according to its purpose for use. It shall met general requirements mentioned in item (3). TOLERANCES 5.1 Thickness 52 S21 5.2.2 Wall thickness tolerance shall be & 5 % if the maximum wall thickness is not specified Rim dimentions Round rim diameter The tolerance on the outside rim diameter shall be + 0.3% from the nominal diameter, or agreed diameter, or + 0.2 mm, whichever is the greater. (Diameter can be known by measuring the circumference and dividing by 7). Circularity Any outside rim diameter, measured directly, shall not differ from the diameter determined as in clause 5.2.1by more than 1.0% or 2 mm, whichever is the — atcimeGULF STANDARD GS 462/194 5.23 In case of other rim shapes, the tolerance shall be as agreed between the purchaser and the supplier. 6. LABELLING The following information shall be declared on the product in Arabic language*.
