A virtual learning environment in educational technology is a Web-based platform for the


digital aspects of courses of study, usually within educational institutions. They present
resources, activities and interactions within a course structure and provide for the different
stages of assessment.

VLE help students access a range of specific learning resources in school, college ,
universities and at home and in other places where there is web access, and computer aided
learning software helps students learn specific skills.

Features of VLE include:

1. A wall or timeline similar to those on social networking communities that contains


posts by teachers and students.
2. A notice board for announcements about the course
3. The ability to share video , audio web links or files.
4. Quizzes or multiple choice tests that are often graded automatically
5. Tools for submitting assignments.
6. Communication tools such as forums, chat rooms, wikis, blogs and social networking

 Students can study at any time, at their own pace and for as long as they wish
 Students can break off their studies and return to them at any time
 Learning resources can be well organised
