Use the For my education course, SED 235 Art, Music, and
expressive arts as Movement, I created a dramatic play center for the
a mode of inquiry students at the Child Development Center on campus. I
or expression was able to promote 21st century learning skills
through the creation of a mini airport. The students
were able to practice packing a suitcase, weighing it,
paying for their ticket, and checking off on a list to
make sure they had everything they needed for a trip. I
was also able to introduce geography with the use of a
map and introduce the concept of time and location
with a flight schedule that included departure times.
Propose new For one of my education courses titled SED 223 Science
solutions to and Health, I had to choose a health, wellness, or
current issues safety issue and provide factual information as well as
a plan for a school district to follow. For this
assignment I chose to examine abuse in a variety of
formats such as physical, emotional, and sexual abuse.
Along with defining and giving examples of each, I
created a plan for a school district to follow in the
event that a student displays sings or expresses
verbally that they are experiencing abuse. This
presentation also gave me a chance to propose new
solutions on how to handle abuse while maintaining
trust with the student if a teacher is considered to be a
mandated reporter.
Analyze the Each week for SLA 201 I have to examine the chapter
impact of history, questions in the textbook, watch an Edpuzzle video, and
geography, and complete a Flipgrid. The homework questions, video,
socio-cultural and Flipgrid are a great example of this skill because
dynamics on they allow me to look back upon the impact of history,
global geography and socio-cultural dynamics in terms of
interactions from things like the industrial revolution, WWI, and the
a variety of Enlightenment. The variety of perspectives comes with
disciplinary the three different avenues used each week. I get the
perspectives educational perspective through my textbook, John
Green’s perspective through the Edpuzzle video, and my
own perspective based on research through the Flipgrid
video. This class has opened my eyes to the
development of European civilization as well which is
super interesting considering I typically only concern
myself with the history of the United States. My global
awareness has skyrocketed.
Assess privilege For my senior seminar class, SLA 400, we have been
and oppression dissecting the catholic social teaching principles in
from the relation to social justice and our future vocations.
perspective of During one of our modules, we analyzed options for the
culture, race, poor and vulnerable in one of our discussion posts
class, and gender which helped me to think back on my own privilege. We
also completed a discussion post after viewing a video
from Maya Angelou and John Lewis. Both of these
prominent members of society greatly impacted me to
slow down and think about what it would be like to be a
different race in America during the time of Martin
Luther King marches and even today. This class in
particular has taught me to separate myself from any
prior privilege and ignorance to hopefully gain a greater
sense of humility.
Apply Catholic For SLA 150 Faith, religion, and society, I had to write a
social teaching paper for my final assignment that encompassed the
to the analysis of Catholic social teaching principles and an issue seen in the
contemporary world today, which in my case was endangered species. I
social issues chose to focus on the orangutan because after completing
preliminary research, this animal really stuck out to me.
This assignment is a great example of this skill because I
was able to incorporate the Catholic social teaching
principle of care for God’s creation and human dignity. It is
morally right based on these two principles that we take
action to help endangered animals thrive rather than be
the cause of their extinction.
Recognize the One assignment that meets this skill and overall objective
value of diverse is a journal entry done for SLA 150 Faith, Religion, and
spiritual and Society. In this journal entry I speak about my newfound
religious understanding of different religions such as Judaism and
perspectives Islam. In this journal entry I reflect on what I anticipated
this class would teach me, explaining my error in thought
compared to the knowledge I was actually receiving. In
completing this journal entry, I was able to recognize the
importance of understanding different religious
perspectives as a way to decrease anger, confusion, and
conflict. I learned that listening is a huge part to
understanding religious perspectives because people just
want to be understood, especially in terms of spiritual
beliefs.
