Use the For my education course, SED 235 Art, Music, and
expressive arts as Movement, I created a dramatic play center for the
a mode of inquiry students at the Child Development Center on campus. I
or expression was able to promote 21st century learning skills
through the creation of a mini airport. The students
were able to practice packing a suitcase, weighing it,
paying for their ticket, and checking off on a list to
make sure they had everything they needed for a trip. I
was also able to introduce geography with the use of a
map and introduce the concept of time and location
with a flight schedule that included departure times.

Demonstrate For SED 240 Parent and Family Conferencing, I had to

leadership, do a group skit project where me and a partner had to
negotiation, write and act out a school conference. In completing
relational, and this, I had to use leadership skills to lead me and my
consensus skills partner to success in the creation and presentation of
our skit. During the performance I had to use my
negotiation and relational skills to convince my partner
and the other members in the class of why our skit
best demonstrated a conference that was well thought
out and planned. I believe this is a great example of
this skill because it touches on each of the pieces of
the skill and because it was a great example of
problem solving through communication. I also learned
how to best communicate with parents and family
members during a conference.

skills to access
information, For my education course SED 227 Teaching English
organize Language Learners, I created a virtual field trip as a
knowledge, and way to incorporate resources and information about a
communicate specific location. For this field trip, I created a website
with different links and information on Garden of the
Gods in Colorado. The students would be tasked with
going through the website, watching the videos,
clicking on the links, and completing the online
worksheets as well. This assignment helped me to
communicate new information to students about a
place they may never have heard of before in a fun and
interactive way.

Propose new For one of my education courses titled SED 223 Science
solutions to and Health, I had to choose a health, wellness, or
current issues safety issue and provide factual information as well as
a plan for a school district to follow. For this
assignment I chose to examine abuse in a variety of
formats such as physical, emotional, and sexual abuse.
Along with defining and giving examples of each, I
created a plan for a school district to follow in the
event that a student displays sings or expresses
verbally that they are experiencing abuse. This
presentation also gave me a chance to propose new
solutions on how to handle abuse while maintaining
trust with the student if a teacher is considered to be a
mandated reporter.

Express For my education course titled SED 262 Child

arguments or Administration, I created a grant proposal document
main points that allowed me to argue for what a school should
clearly, in written spend their grant money on. I chose the idea of a calm
and oral room. The idea behind this room is to give students a
communication space to take a break during the school day. For the
project, I had to identify why I wanted to use the
money for, create a budget breakdown, a statement of
needs, and include references with facts on why a calm
room is necessary. This allowed me to argue for a grant
of my choice through a written proposal and I also had
to complete an oral presentation convincing my
classmates to select my idea for the calm room as
opposed to other suggestions.

Transfer For SPL 210 Introduction to Ethics course, I learned

knowledge and about the concept of moral conflicts while reading a
values into sound play called Antigone by Sophocles. In this paper, I had
decision making to transfer my knowledge of moral conflict and
Antigone’s decisions in the book to explain a moral
conflict I personally had faced. I chose to explain how
my family moved when I was a senior in high school
and instead of moving with them, I chose to stay and
finish out my school. In writing this paper, I was able to
examine my own decisions through the lens of moral
conflict.

Communicate in Over the winter, I completed a Spanish course online

a second through SUNY New Paltz University in order to satisfy
language at the my language credit. Through this course, I completed
introductory online daily Spanish activities and submitted papers for
college level this course that helped me to grow my Spanish speaking
abilities. I was able to communicate only in Spanish
through a written format in a composition about a
restaurant review. I chose a restaurant from Atlanta, GA
and first completed an organizer before writing a
critique of the restaurant. In the critique was a review
of the food, the building, the management, and the
overall enjoyment. I do wish I did more verbal
communication because I don’t feel very fluent in my
spoken Spanish.

Analyze the Each week for SLA 201 I have to examine the chapter
impact of history, questions in the textbook, watch an Edpuzzle video, and
geography, and complete a Flipgrid. The homework questions, video,
socio-cultural and Flipgrid are a great example of this skill because
dynamics on they allow me to look back upon the impact of history,
global geography and socio-cultural dynamics in terms of
interactions from things like the industrial revolution, WWI, and the
a variety of Enlightenment. The variety of perspectives comes with
disciplinary the three different avenues used each week. I get the
perspectives educational perspective through my textbook, John
Green’s perspective through the Edpuzzle video, and my
own perspective based on research through the Flipgrid
video. This class has opened my eyes to the
development of European civilization as well which is
super interesting considering I typically only concern
myself with the history of the United States. My global
awareness has skyrocketed.

Analyze current In order to suffice my theology credit, I took a course at

and historical Waynesburg University over the winter term titled BMS
events through 106 Introduction to the New Testament. This course
the lens of went through each of the books in the new testament
spirituality and with readings, videos, lectures, and PowerPoint
faith presentations. For this skill, I chose to use my first paper
as it dives into Polytheism in the 21st century. I was able
to dive into five idols seen in the world today that
create a separation between people and God. Through
this assignment I was also able to analyze how idols
have changed throughout the years and in comparison,
to idols seen in the beginning of the new testament.
This assignment also gave me a better understanding
through research of the impact of different idols in the
world today. It would have been really interesting to
dive into more a specific event, but this paper gave me
more of an overall comparison between the 21 st century
and new testament idols.

Assess privilege For my senior seminar class, SLA 400, we have been
and oppression dissecting the catholic social teaching principles in
from the relation to social justice and our future vocations.
perspective of During one of our modules, we analyzed options for the
culture, race, poor and vulnerable in one of our discussion posts
class, and gender which helped me to think back on my own privilege. We
also completed a discussion post after viewing a video
from Maya Angelou and John Lewis. Both of these
prominent members of society greatly impacted me to
slow down and think about what it would be like to be a
different race in America during the time of Martin
Luther King marches and even today. This class in
particular has taught me to separate myself from any
prior privilege and ignorance to hopefully gain a greater
sense of humility.

Generate and While I was at the University of Kentucky, I took an

analyze numerical introduction to statistics class that helped me to
and scientific data increase my understanding of data analysis and
interpretation. One of my assignments for the class
was a group survey project that involved the creation
of a research question, a survey, and then an analysis
of the data received. We learned that the more
subjects you have for a survey, the better the results
will be more accurate and that the way questions are
worded can greatly impact the results of a survey.
Through this class I was able to not only learn
statistics through tests and quizzes, but also through
groupwork and projects.

Locate and For SHY 330, Sports in America, I had to create a

analyze term paper based on the impact skateboarding has
expressive media on hierarchical class structure and urban change in
to gain American society. When I first signed up for this
information or class, I had no idea the dive I was going to take into
comprehend the different socioeconomic issues in America when
significance of an talking about sports. This assignment in particular
issue or an event included the watching of two different YouTube
videos and the reading of an article to gather
background information on the history of
skateboarding. I looked at the impact of
skateboarding on Love Park in Philadelphia and
analyzed how this translated to cities all over the
country. I loved how this course gave me a chance
to explore an area of learning I never really have
before. This term paper and all of the corresponding
discussions and assignments opened my eyes to
what sports in America were like before all of the
leagues we have today.

Organize and For SED 240 Parent and Family Conferencing, I

manage created a policy handbook, which is essentially a
resources in a newsletter or handbook for parents and families.
creative way to This handbook is a great example of a way that I
achieve impact creatively used, organized, and managed resources
because I had to first gather information and sources
about how to create the policy handbook and then
had to find information on the correct
developmental level of the students that would be in
my class. I displayed this information beautifully in a
word document that had a yellow sunflower theme.
There were specific boxes and pages for the different
elements needed. I was able to make a document
that was visually appeal, intriguing, and
informational. This was one of my favorite
assignments and ways that I have organized an
exuberant amount of resources.

Find, evaluate, For SED 328 Reading to Learn, we had to create an

and apply online literacy binder that included literacy
information organizations, writing activities and strategies,
books, and reading activities, strategies, and games.
All were meant to encourage literacy development in
young children. I had to do a lot of research in order
to find reliable sources that provided games and
activities that were on grade level and applicable to
the students. After find the source, I then had to
analyze how the activity could be done, what it was
all about, and my reason for selecting it. This activity
taught me to find information that will enhance
literacy, evaluate how the activities, organizations,
and skills can help students, and apply it in a friendly
format like a PowerPoint.

Interpret For one of my education courses, SED 208

quantitative and Characteristics and Strategies, I had to complete a
qualitative presentation on learning disabilities and the impact
information to they had on learning in the classroom. This is a great
present a logical example of this final skill for multiple modes of
argument based inquiry because I used multiple examples filled with
on supporting both quantitative and qualitative information to
data explain the importance of understanding and
properly diagnosing learning disabilities. There is
such a stigma against learning disabilities when there
really shouldn’t be. It is so important to diagnose
students as soon as possible so they can get the help
the need and can be as successful as possible in their
educational journey. This project and presentation
opened my eyes to the data that supports early
intervention in the classroom and specific diagnosis’
whenever possible.

Demonstrate For my introduction to ethics class, we had to participate

ethical decision- in an open discussion about our own moral compass and
making different types of conflict. For example, we talked about
grounded in the conflict of having two people dangling from a cliff and
philosophical only being able to save one. This is a perfect example for
inquiry this skill because we were tasked with making ethical
decisions on who to save in specific scenarios based on the
philosophical and ethical principles learned in class. I loved
getting to do these open discussions because it was so
interesting to see the different perspectives people had on
what would be the most logical or moral thing to do.

Apply Catholic For SLA 150 Faith, religion, and society, I had to write a
social teaching paper for my final assignment that encompassed the
to the analysis of Catholic social teaching principles and an issue seen in the
contemporary world today, which in my case was endangered species. I
social issues chose to focus on the orangutan because after completing
preliminary research, this animal really stuck out to me.
This assignment is a great example of this skill because I
was able to incorporate the Catholic social teaching
principle of care for God’s creation and human dignity. It is
morally right based on these two principles that we take
action to help endangered animals thrive rather than be
the cause of their extinction.

Recognize the One assignment that meets this skill and overall objective
value of diverse is a journal entry done for SLA 150 Faith, Religion, and
spiritual and Society. In this journal entry I speak about my newfound
religious understanding of different religions such as Judaism and
perspectives Islam. In this journal entry I reflect on what I anticipated
this class would teach me, explaining my error in thought
compared to the knowledge I was actually receiving. In
completing this journal entry, I was able to recognize the
importance of understanding different religious
perspectives as a way to decrease anger, confusion, and
conflict. I learned that listening is a huge part to
understanding religious perspectives because people just
want to be understood, especially in terms of spiritual
beliefs.

Integrate the For SED 328 Reading to Learn, I had to complete

practice of observation hours as part of the requirement for this
charity with the course. I took it a step further and volunteered at the
skill of justice Elementary school for extra hours just to help out the
teacher I was working with. I believe this is a good example
because I practiced the skill of charity through
volunteering at the school and in terms of the skill of
justice. It is only fair that students have access to people
who care about their success in the classroom. Another
example of me integrating the practice of charity can be
seen in my community service done through my lacrosse
team. I typically help the Big Brothers Big Sisters group
with their annual turkey trot packet pick-up. This
organization works with youth in the Greensburg area to
set them up for success by matching them up with a
mentor.

Exercise For one of my education courses, SED 325 Learning to

responsible Read, I had to come up with a theme-based lesson plan to
freedom and teach the child development center on campus. I decided
civic to teach a lesson on the value of voting and teaching the
engagement students how to vote. This is a great example because I
based on an exercised my understanding of voting, which is civic
informed value engagement and a responsible freedom that Americans
system have. I taught the students that voting is a way to be heard
as we are a country based on democracy. I believe this
example not only shows my understanding of an informed
value system, but also shows the pride I take in teaching
those younger than me about it.
