1.Introduction
From the moment I was told to choose a topic for my research
work, various doubts arose; from the continent to the content
going through the decision of which one could I affront and
resolve with guarantee. Once I took a decision, I realized that I
would not be an easy task, and that my decision was threatened
to be prolonged.
Months later, I think I guessed right the choice I made and hope
that after this research, the subject will end up raising certain
passion between you the same way that it did to me.
2. Masaru Emoto’s Life and work
2.1. Biography
Masaru Emoto was born on the 22nd of July in 1943 in Yokohama,
Japan. He has three children and is married to Kazuko Emoto. He
graduated from Yokohama Municipal University's department of
humanities and sciences with a focus on International Relations,
and later in 1992 received a title as Doctor of alternative
medicine from the Open International University for Alternative
Medicine which is situated in India with minimal academic
requirements. Subsequently he was introduced to the concept of
micro cluster water in the US and Magnetic Resonance Analysis
technology. This university is an unaccredited institute, although
it is now the world’s leading alternative medicine institution with
a membership count of about 70.000 practitioners.
3.1. Definition
The scientific method relies on 6 steps which are not always the
same, as there is no one single scientific method. Every
experiment is different and may or may not follow the exact
steps. The basic steps to conduct an experiment are:
1.The first one is the most imporant one, as is the one that raises
the question about something you have observed; how, when,
who, which, why and where. Most of the questions will be
answered by a number, as it will be easier to measure and
compare.
2. Background research is the following step; gather information
and resources.
3.3. Characteristics.
First of all, was to take the entire team about: the amount of
required water samples, Petri dishes in which its material and
size are critical dry ice and a refrigerator. Able to photograph the
crystals is only possible after fulfilling several requirements: the
exact temperature of the freezer, specific exposure times, the
exact temperature of the refrigerator, the enlargement of the
microscopic observation, how to illuminate the object and the
lens opening.
It took him about two months to take one photo that he felt he
was able to use; during all that time, he wasted more that one
thousand movie tapes.
However, the moment he took his first successful photograph of
a water crystal was
impressive. After the initial
photograph, his experiment gained
speed. That was how he built a
refrigerated room in which he made
fit a small freezer and an
equipment of microscope with a
camera. After organizing a group
for shooting glasses, he and his colleagues took pictures one by
one and stored information.
4.3. HADO
Antarctic Ice
The Antarctic ice sheet is one of the two polar ice caps of
the Earth. It covers about 98% of the Antarctic continent and is
the largest single mass of ice on Earth. It covers an area of
almost 14 million square km and contains 30 million cubic km of
ice.
4.4.1.3. Fountains
4.4.1.5. Rivers
Bangkok, Thailand
The main source of water pollution in Bangkok is the domestic
sector. Water quality in Bangkok is critical in comparison to the
surface water standards set by the National Environment Board
(NEB)
Hong Kong
Water pollution can be invisible to the naked eye, but its impacts
are for the most part clear enough. Bacteria, nutrients and other
pollutants can make swimmers sick, contaminate or kill marine
life, and give off bad smells.
London, UK
Until the 1960s the waters of London’s rivers were as polluted as
its air. Deoxygenated and black with scum, they showed the
effects of sewage pollution and uncontrolled industrial effluents.
Tighter environmental standards, combined with the closure of
factories, produced an improvement in water quality, but this is
not still as pure as it should.
Manaus, Brazil
Brazil’s major and medium size metropolitan areas face
increasing problems of water pollution. Coastal cities such as Rio
de Janeiro, São Paulo and Recife suffer effects of upstream
residential and industrial sewage contaminating Feeder Rivers,
lakes, and the ocean. In 2000, only 35% of collected wastewater
received any treatment.
Sidney, Australia
The main cause of beach pollution in Sydney is now storm water,
which can carry pollutants washed from the catchment
and overflows from the sewerage system. Bypasses from sewage
treatment plants may also affect beach water quality.
Venice, Italy
In Venice, water is extremely polluted; Canals throughout Venice
serve the purpose of transportation and sewer system. Farming,
manufacturing plants and large ships add to the growing list of
polluters. As a result, it is not surprising that water is dirty and
Venice as a consequence, the crystals formed from water are not
beautiful, transmitting a definitively distorted and randomly
formed crystalline structure.
4.4.2. Comparisons between crystals
Beethoven, Pastorale
This is one of the symphonies, most famous of Beethoven: it is
fresh and joyful. This beautiful crystal confirmed by the fact that
good music affects positively the water.
Bach, Air for the G String
It looks as the crystal was delighted by the sound of music. The
branches of the glass spread freely.
Emoto stated, “I did not start out with any modern scientific
background. I did not even know the limit of science to stop me
from giving this research a chance.” Not having been educated in
the scientific community, Emoto has been happy to do his
“research” without accurately employing the scientific method.
While he does employ the spirit of the scientific method in his
research design, he makes critical mistakes in its rigor. For
example, Emoto’s research does employ observation of a
physical phenomenon, formulation of a hypothesis to explain the
phenomenon, and testing and revising the hypothesis, but he
makes the critical mistake of failing to minimize the influence of
the experimenter’s bias on the outcome of the research.
Also, the photographers knew what they were looking for, and
Emoto said that the creativity of his photographers was valued
more than following the experiment rigorously. , Dr. Emoto
specifically stated, “I do not require any blind tests on any
samples,” but rather he believes that “the researcher’s aesthetic
sense and character is the most important aspect when taking
crystal photographs.” Emoto’s belief that ice crystal formation is
sensitive to human thought lead him to select technicians who
would not affect crystal formation with negative thoughts over
technicians who had formal research experience.
-
Emoto indicated that his water samples were frozen at 25°C, and
his crystals were formed at -5°C. According to the morphology
diagram of ice crystal formation, column crystals should be
formed instead of plate crystals, yet none of Emoto’s pictures
show a column crystal. Could Emoto have fabricated his findings?
Let’s put it this way – he has no supportive data to back his
claims.
5.1. Process
The human being appears physically in the land for the first
time when the ovum of the mother and the sperm of the father
meet and turn into a fertilized ovum. At this moment, the water
takes part of about 95 % of the ovum, that is to say, that this one
is mostly pure water. A mature body has a 70% of water, so it’s
what we are mostly made of. The earth is called the water planet,
as 70% of its surface it’s water, just as the human body. Most
part of the earth’s water like rain, underground currents, lakes
and rivers is in the sea; what’s more, there’s also water around
us, as clouds or fogs. Snow in the high mountains and Antarctic
ices are water too.
As Emoto deepened his research, he began to doubt about the
immaculacy of the water he was working with, and as a
consequence, what would that mean to the human body. Nobody
apart from an investigation institution of water know the answer;
to our eyes, water looks alike whichever that its composition is.
So Emoto questioned what was the difference in the information
that every kind of water contains? Is there anyway to get to know
that difference?
As he thought about that, he found a book that proposed 50
questions, and one was “Are there any snow crystals with same
shape?” The answer was that snow had been falling on earth for
millions of years and that each crystal had a different shape.

9.1. Interviews
Interview 1
Dr. Emoto: It was 21 years ago. While I was playing golf with
American scientists, my leg began to hurt. One of them gave me
a spray bottle of water and recommended that I spray the water
on the affected part of my leg. I followed his advice and the pain
went away rather quickly. This intrigued me, and was the catalyst
that sparked my interest in water.
MKB: What do you mean when you say water has memory? Are
you saying it has intelligence?
Dr. Emoto: Water has a role to carry information, and I don’t think
it has intelligence. In essence, water is a mirror of the human
mind. A mirror of humanity.
MKB: You mention in “The Message from Water” that our words,
thoughts, emotions, sounds, music and intentional prayer can
impact water’s structure. So how do words like love, peace,
gratitude raise the vibrations of water?
MKB: What type of words cause the most dramatic changes and
how?
MKB: What words are associated with smaller clusters vs. larger
clusters?
Dr. Emoto: Negative phrases and words will create large clusters
while loving, positive words and phrases will form beautiful
crystal clusters. Slang phrases such as “you fool” can destroy the
process of clusters forming.
Dr. Emoto: Pure distilled water will wash away essential minerals
from the body, and so it might not be a good idea to drink only
pure distilled water. Yet, we have found that distilled water will
accept information more easily. So, distilled water with
information, which is sometimes called functional water in Japan,
not called distilled water anymore, can be a very good water.
MKB: Since our bodies are 75% water, how can we utilize water
to improve our health? Is it again based solely on our attitude,
intention/faith, visualizing or affirmations?
Dr. Emoto: We should give our love and gratitude to the food and
water that we take and then eat or drink it. We should also do the
same to the environment, people and all things around us, we
should give our love and gratitude as it will show us that
everything is a mirror of our thoughts, beliefs and intentions.
It is said that you can live up to 125 years. Yet, I think we have
the potential to live longer than this, possibly up to 300 years
old. Yet, for this to be possible, you need to have the right
environment. You need to understand that everything is a
vibration. And to resonate in a way that would support such a
long life you need good water, good air, good nature, and good
vibrations.

MKB: Does the water form crystals only in the frozen state or is
there instant change when we place our intent through words,
prayers, thoughts or sounds?
Dr. Emoto: There is an instant change. Yet, if you want to see the
change as a very stable state in this third dimensional world, you
will need to observe the water in its crystalline state. Sensitive
people can “feel” this vibrational change.
Dr. Emoto: There are many studies being conducted around the
world, which validate this research. Some which are featured in
the documentary film, “Water”.
MKB: One last question. If you could impart to the world one
message, what would that be?
MKB: It has been an honor and privilege. Thank you for your
time.
That distilled water is not like rain water has been shown by Dr.
Emoto using Magnetic Resonance Analysis (see image above).
While rain water contains oxygen and minerals and crystallizes
into snow flakes, distilled water has no crystalline structure and
is very acidic once exposed to air.
Today, even if the water that we drink or use does not contain
any detrimental ingredient, the quality of water is not always
satisfactory. It is becoming clear that the formation of water
crystals reflects the quality of the water. I would be pleased if you
would deepen your understanding and interest toward water
when you see the photographs that are reported here."
Masaru Emoto
Interview 2
XL. Salman Rushdie afirma: «Es tan malo que hace que las
novelas malas parezcan buenas». ¿Le duele este
comentario?
pomposo. Si comenta: «Eres horrible», te vuelves susceptible e
inseguro. Tienes que ponerte anteojeras.
REIKO: We have read your book The Message from Water, and we
introduced it on our website in our August issue (see "Conscious
Water Crystals: The Power of Prayer Made Visible.") It has been
our most popular article, with its readership increasing every
week, and has raised many questions.
You mentioned in your book how you would type out words on a
piece of paper and paste these written words onto a bottle, and
see how the water reacted to the words -- what kind of crystals
were formed from the words. From your research, are you able to
discern whether the reaction of the water came from the
vibration of the actual words that were pasted onto the bottles,
or whether the intention of the person who was pasting the
words onto the bottle influenced the experiment in any way?
REIKO: Have you ever tested other human body fluids, such as
saliva, blood, urine etc?
REIKO: Could you then see the effect that energetic healing or
prayer has on a person by looking at the crystals formed by their
blood or urine?
DR. EMOTO: Slang words like "you fool" destroy clusters. You
would not see any crystals in these cases. Negative phrases and
words create large clusters or will not form clusters, and positive,
beautiful words and phrases create small, tight clusters.
REIKO: You say that some negatives do not form clusters, but we
see from your photos that they do still form characteristic
patterns. How would you classify these patterns?
DR. EMOTO: Think of it in terms of vibration. It's easy to
understand that language -- the spoken word -- has a vibration.
Well, written words also have a vibration. Anything in existence
has a vibration. If I were to draw a circle, the vibration of a circle
would be created. Drawing a cross would create the vibration of a
cross. So if I write the letters L O V E, then these letters put out
the vibration of love. Water can be imprinted with these
vibrations. Beautiful words have beautiful, clear vibrations. But
negative words put out ugly, incoherent vibrations which do not
form clusters. Language is not something artificial, but rather is
something that exists naturally. I believe that language is created
by nature.
REIKO: Does that mean that every word has its own signature
vibration or cluster that is unique to itself?
DR. EMOTO: I think that would be a wonderful thing, and for the
sake of preserving Mother Nature it is the direction that we need
to go. However, since water is the mirror reflecting our level of
consciousness, a large percentage of the people on the planet, at
least 10 percent of the people, need to have the love and the
kan-sha awareness. When they do, then the time will come when
water can be used to replace gasoline. And the reason I say 10
percent is that this ratio is mirrored in nature. When we look at
the world of bacteria, for example, there are 10 percent good
bacteria, 10 percent bad, and a majority of 80 percent
opportunistic bacteria that could go either way. In looking at the
various environmental issues we are faced with, and the tasks
that we need to fulfill for the planet, if we could get more than 10
percent of the people consciously aware, than I believe we could
pull the 80 percent in that direction, too.
And so I believe that the people who are following a spiritual path
are promoting peace for the planet and for other people. If we
could only unite on this level of consciousness, then we will be
there.
I feel that my book The Message From Water has given birth to a
convincing message through a common language for the whole
world. Not because I wrote it, but because I know it was birthed
through kan-sha toward mankind. I think this is why so many
people from other countries want to interview me about the
book. I am being invited to give talks at six different European
locations. Things have been coming in non-stop from abroad.
DR. EMOTO: After the book was published, I was wondering about
this, and I came to the realization that these crystals are spirits.
There are many parallels. When ice melts, the crystalline
structure becomes an illusion. It's there -- and yet it's not there,
because you can no longer see it.
In the past 100 years the world's population has increased from 1
billion to 6 billion. During these 100 years, war and capitalism
has dominated the planet. Rather than being able to detach from
our desires, the opposite has been true. Our desires have grown
and grown. Very few people have been able to attain
enlightenment in this environment. Few souls have been able to
go "home" and I believe they have remained on Earth in the form
of water. This connects into the concept of reincarnation, where
these spirits keep falling back to Earth and need to redo their
lives here.
And so, looking at the pictures of the water crystals and the
impact they are having, I came to the realization that these
themselves are ghosts. Up until now, I had thought of ghosts as
something to be frightened of, something that we could do
nothing about. But watching these crystals, I realized that by
simply projecting beautiful music and words onto them, the
crystals or ghosts become beautiful.
If that's the case, there's nothing to be frightened of. We need to
let everybody know about this, and all use beautiful words and
offer beautiful music, and create beauty in the environment.
9.2. Articles.
Article 1
The hypothesis that water “treated” with intention can affect ice
crystals formed from that water was pilot tested under double-
blind conditions. A group of approximately 2,000 people in Tokyo
focused positive intentions toward water samples located inside
an electromagnetically shielded room in California. That group
was unaware of similar water samples set aside in a different
location as controls. Ice crystals formed from both sets of water
samples were blindly identified and photographed by an analyst,
and the resulting images were blindly assessed for aesthetic
appeal by 100 independent judges. Results indicated that
crystals from the treated water were given higher scores for
aesthetic appeal than those from the control water (P = .001,
one-tailed), lending support to the hypothesis.
Introduction
Methods
Treatment
Analysis
The day after the conference, D.R. and G.H. retrieved all four
bottles and wrapped them in identical sheets of aluminum foil
and bubble wrap, placed each bottle in a separate box labeled A
through D as appropriate, and mailed the four boxes to M.E.’s
laboratory. (The treatment and control bottles were in their
separate locations for approximately 36 hours before being
brought together again for packaging.) The bubble wrap and
aluminum foil were used to provide a rudimentary shield against
sudden shocks, ambient light, and electromagnetic fields that
might have impinged on the bottles while en route to Japan. Each
box was packaged separately to avoid the possibility that treated
bottles might influence the control bottles through close
proximity. After mailing the boxes, D.R. and G.H. informed M.E.
and T.K. about the two control bottles, but they were not told the
conditions of the four bottles to ensure that their analysis would
be conducted blindly.
Upon receiving the four boxes, T.K. examined water samples from
each bottle according to the following procedure:
3.T.K. later removed the dishes from the freezer, and, in a walk-in
refrigerator (maintained at −5°C), he examined the apex of each
resulting ice drop for a crystal using a stereo optical microscope.
Previous experience with ice drops formed under these
conditions indicated that the apex was the location where
crystals were most likely to form. Crystals were defined as
hexagonal shapes.
4.If a crystal was observed at the apex (not all ice drops formed
discernable crystals), T.K. photographed it at either ×100 or
×200 magnification, depending on the size of the crystal.
Results
Analysis of Crystals
D.R. received a total of 40 photographs: 12 crystals were from
bottle A, 12 from B, 7 from C, and 9 from D. Bottles A and B were
the treated bottles, thus slightly more crystals were identified in
the treated condition. To assess the aesthetic appeal of these 40
crystals, a group of 100 volunteers were recruited over the
Internet to blindly and independently rate each crystal, one at a
time, on a scale from zero to six, where zero meant “not
beautiful” and six meant “very beautiful.” (The ratings were
collected via a Web site programmed in Perl/CGI by the first
author.) Beautiful crystals were defined as symmetric,
aesthetically pleasing shapes.
The order in which each image was presented to each judge (via
a Web page) was independently randomized. In addition, the
image titles (eg, “2.jpg,” “3.jpg”) were assigned random numbers
so the condition could not be inferred by examining the name of
the crystal image and the condition (treated vs control) from
which each crystal was formed was not indicated, and no
feedback was provided at the end of the assessment exercise to
prevent judges from learning which images corresponded to
which conditions. The planned analysis was based on the first
100 judges to complete ratings of all 40 crystals, for a total of
4,000 contributed ratings.
Discussion
One might ask whether a new group of raters would replicate the
initial results. This was tested by examining the results provided
by 100 additional raters. The resulting t test was t (38 df) =
3.11, P = .002, confirming the original findings.
Perhaps the treated and control bottles were handled differently
(say, with more fingerprints on the treated bottles), and the
analyst (T.K.) detected those differences and was subsequently
biased. Anticipating such artifacts, investigators D.R. and G.H.
took care to ensure that the four bottles were physically handled
the same way and then packaged identically. A related question
is whether the treated and control environments might have
differed in important ways. The treated bottles were in an
electromagnetically shielded room during the treatment period,
but the control bottles were not. In addition, that shielded room
had been used exclusively for intention-related experiments for
several years prior to this experiment. It is conceivable that
purported “space conditioning” effects, as reported in previous
intention studies, or simply differences in exposure to ambient
electromagnetic radiation, may have played a role in the present
outcome.
By Deirdre Brocklebank
Dr Emoto calls this universal vibration hado which means "all the
subtle energy that exists in the Universe." Water is sensitive to
hado and according to Dr Emoto, water acts as a mirror of the
vibrations created in the world. This energy can be positive or
negative.
Humans are each vibrating with their own unique frequency and
have the sensory skills necessary to feel the vibrations of others.
My EFT experiences have enabled me to develop my skills in this
regard. As a result, I now often intuitively tune into the subtle as
well as the stronger more obvious emotions that my clients
experience during EFT sessions with them.
Tapping into the meridian system with EFT while stating negative
and positive words also has a profound effect. This is because
when a disruption of the energy system is calmed and relieved,
the person no longer experiences pain and/or or negative
emotions from the original memory or thought, as the associated
feeling has been "disconnected" according to Sylvia Hartmann,
the founder of EmoTrance.
The results were useful for finding issues to pursue with EFT. For
example the person in this experiment liked the taste of, and
muscle tested very strong to water exposed to the word "die".
However, on two occasions she didn't like the taste of the water
exposed to the word "live" and she muscle tested weak on this.
When asked later how she felt about dying she answered that
she was quite happy about the thought of it. By contrast, living
was a challenge at the time because she was about to retire and
was not sure about her financial future.
Article 3
One way science models our physical world is as matter, like the
form of an atom, molecule, etc. Another way is via waves such as
electromagnetic waves, gravity waves, and quantum probability
waves. To discuss ways that information can be introduced into
the cellular structure of our "water body" we will use the wave
approach. At its most fundamental level everything in the
universe is in a state of vibration - - creating waves. In
homeopathy the information copied to the water is being used to
cancel out the information of the symptoms from the disease -- a
wave cancellation effect. Water is the master listener in the
universe -- and you are mostly water.
You will recall that Dr. Masaru Emoto photographed the crystals
that formed as ice melted into water to show the informational
memory of the water. His data indicated that music, sound,
pictures, words, and thoughts could impart information to water.
Hence, they must also be able to impart information to our cells
and our bodies. Music and sound are waves. However, to
comprehend the process, we need to understand the
phenomenon of resonance. Resonance is the transference of
wave energy between similar shapes and forms vibrating at the
same frequency. Very powerful energy transfers occur for
identical frequencies. The music you play caries its message to
the water by adding energy to selected resonant frequencies.
This is how music and light therapies work upon our "water
body."
You may be thinking that this doesn't make sense since just
having written words around can't be that powerful. Now we
need to introduce the concepts of consciousness -- where is our
attention focused and what is our intention. Dr. Emoto reported
that the thoughts of his researches and of observers affected his
results. To explain the power of thought we hypothesize an
underlying unity, a substructure or foundation which underpins
the entire universe -- a domain of "unbounded potential" which is
and always will be; where there is no time, no space, only
complete interconnectiveness. We suggest that this is the soil for
the "non-locality" phenomena of physics. We (and every other
form in the universe) interact with this creative source of all
physicality in a feedback manner via a wave resonance process.
Our conscious and unconscious thoughts can therefore have an
effect upon water and our bodies.

While these first claims of Dr. Emoto may seem to make common
sense, his subsequent claims are ever-increasingly more
controversial. After studying the variation in water crystals from
samples taken from different locations around the world, Emoto
decided to study what would happen to the formation of ice
crystals from distilled water after the liquid was exposed to
music.
