‘Launching of Virtual Law Clinic’

Amidst the pandemic, the Mindanao State University Law School launched its Sarimanok
Virtual Law Clinic. An online website wherein citizens of the Philippines can file their concerns
and will be catered by the qualified law students from the institution. This move would give
access to marginalized communities when it comes to their problems which will involve the
help of lawyers and lawyers in the making.

According to Dean Zed, this move will give the law students the engagement with their
local communities that would help them become not just a Bar passer, but a prepaid lawyer,
ready to face the real world of lawyering. Truth be told, any school may produce the best Bar
passers there is, however this does not guarantee that such Bar passer is Lawyer ready. With
the engagement of the students in real life situations, us, law school students would be
equipped with all the things that they need even before passing the Bar.

As a Law student myself, I feel like with the our future involvement and exposure with
the Sarimanok Virtual Law Clinic and even in face to face activities will help us learn deeply and
appreciate of what the law profession is about. I always believed that students can learn so
much by doing the things that they are expected to learn. For examples, if students are exposed
to actual trial, they would learn what to expect when they will put into it when they become a
lawyer. If they are tasked to do pleadings, then if they become real lawyers, they would not
have a hard time trying to figure out how to write and make it.

With the development of the Legal Education, law school are not only expected to
produce Bar top notchers or passers but a person who is lawyer ready, and is someone who
prioritizes justice over anything else.

One thing is for sure, this move by the Mindanao State University Law School proves
that we can transform adversities into opportunities.
