CHAPTER I
PROBLEM

1.1 BACKGROUND
In the derivative of functions, there are several methods that are carried out, not only by using
one method in working on the problem but basically having different processing techniques with
the same final result. Different methods must have their weaknesses and strengths and also each
method used has a side that can be used permanently for all types of questions and there are also
methods that are only used for certain problems so that this method is less attractive to many
people. Each method offers a different side depending on the knowledge of a person because the
understanding of a method depends on the person himself. However, in choosing a method, it's a
good idea to choose a method that is easy to understand and indeed the truth of the method can
be proven by practicing on several problems.

1.2 PROBLEM FORMULATION

• What were the weaknesses of the two methods?

• What are the advantages of the two methods?

• Can the new method be used for all types of questions?

1.3 PURPOSE
• Knowing the weaknesses of the two methods

• Knowing the advantages of both methods

• Know that new methods can be used for all types of questions

THEORY
Definition of Derivatives

The derivative is a calculation of the change in the value of the function due to changes in
the input value (variable).Derivative can also be referred to as differential and the process of
determining the derivative of a function is called differentiation.Using the studied limit concept,
the derivative can be defined as

turunan tersebut didefinisikan sebagai limit dari perubahan rata-rata dari nilai fungsi terhadap
variabel x.

Application of Derivatives

Here are some child implementations. The derivative can be used to calculate the slope of the
tangent to the curve. The derivative can be used to specify the interval at which a function
increases or decreases.Derivatives can be applied to determine the stationary value of a
function.Derivatives can be applied in solving problems related to equations of motion,
Derivatives can be used to solve maximum-minimum problems, the following will explain about
derivative formulas.

Derivative Formulas

Here are some basic formulas for determining derivatives.f (x) = c, where c is a constant

1. f (x) = c, where c is a constant

The derivative of the function is f '(x) = 0.

2. f (x) = x

The derivative of the function is f '(x) = 1.

3. f (x) = axn

The derivative of the function is f '(x) = anxn - 1

4. Addition of function: h (x) = f (x) + g (x)

The derivative of the function is h '(x) = f' (x) + g '(x).

5. Reduction function: h (x) = f (x) - g (x)

The derivative of the function is h '(x) = f' (x) - g '(x)

2
6. Multiply the constant by a function (kf) (x).

The derivative of the function is k. f '(x).

The following will explain about function derivatives.

Derivative Functions

Suppose there is a function f (x) = axn. The derivative of the function is f '(x) = anxn - 1.

Examples are:

f (x) = 3x3

derivative of the function, namely

f '(x) = 3 (3) x3 - 1 = 9 x2.

Another example is g (x) = -5y-3.

The derivative of the function is g '(y) = -5 (-3) y-3 - 1 = 15y-4.

The following will explain the derivatives of algebraic functions.

Derivative Algebra Functions
The discussion of derivative algebraic functions in this section includes derivatives in the
form of multiplication and derivatives in the division of algebraic functions. The derivative of the
algebraic function in the form of multiplication is as follows.

Suppose there is a multiplication function: h (x) = u (x). v (x).

The derivative of the function is h '(x) = u' (x). v (x) + u (x). v '(x).

Information:

 h (x): function in the form of multiplication function.

 h '(x): derivative of the multiplication form function
 u (x), v (x): function with the variable x
 u '(x), v' (x): derivative of function with variable x
Derivative of algebraic functions in the form of division, namely:

3
Suppose there is a multiplication function: h (x) = u (x) / v (x). The derivative of this function
is h '(x) = (u' (x). v (x) - u (x). v '(x)) / v2 (x).

Information:

 h (x): function in the form of multiplication function.

 h '(x): derivative of the multiplication form function
 u (x), v (x): function with the variable x
 u '(x), v' (x): derivative of function with variable x

Existing Methods

Derivative of the division function

If F (x) = U / V then the derivative of F '(x) is formulated as follows:

u' v−uv '

y=
v2

U 'represents the derivative of the function U and V' represents the derivative of the function V.
For more details, consider the derivation of the following formula.

4
Problems Example:

5 x 2 +2
Determine the derivative of y=
−x 2−3

Solution:
5 x 2 +2
y=
−x 2−3

Suppose : u = 5 x 2+2 → u' = 10x

v = −x 2−3 → v' = -2x

u' v−uv '

y=
v2

10 (−x 2−3 ) −( 5 x 2+2 ) (−2 x )

y= ¿¿
5
(−10 x 2−3 ) −( 5 x 2−4 x )
y= ¿¿

−26 x
y=

Advantages of Existing Methods

In the derivative method of the division of functions in getting the derivative result of the
division of functions, of course this is a fairly trained way for beginners in the division of derived
functions because at the beginning of learning the derivative of functions, this method has been
introduced first. So that it will often be encountered which makes it easier for us to understand
how to find the derivative of the division of the function. This method is also very systematic and
can be used in any form of division problem solving by two functions.

Disadvantages of Existing Methods

In the derivative method of the division of functions in determining the derivative result of the
division of two functions, of course the method is long enough so that the possibility of error is
very high and also this method is not very suitable for use in working on multiple choice
questions because in this method the calculation process is carried out repeatedly depending on
the high power of the variable x because the higher the rank of the variable x, the more the
process of derivation and understanding of the method is quite difficult.

CHAPTER III
METHODOLOGY

3.1 NEW METHODS

a x u +b
y= → y ' = uax ( d ) +b
cx u+ d ¿¿

Problems example :

5 x 2 +2
Find the derivative of y=
−x 2−3

5 x 2 +2
Solution: y=
−x 2−3

2.5 x .(−3)+2
y= ¿¿

−30 x−(−4 x )
y= ¿¿
−26 x
y=
¿¿

3.2 SOLUTION STEPS :

 The first step is to determine a namely the x coefficient in the function f (x), b as a
constant, c as the x coefficient in the function g (x), and d as a constant
 Find the derivative of division by multiplying a by the exponent in the function f (x),
which is a multiplied by u to become u.a
 Then swap position d until it is in position u.ax
 Perform the operation of the function
 You will get the result of the function derivative

7
3.3 ADVANTAGES OF THE NEW METHOD

The method we recommend is a fairly short method because unlike the existing methods the
process of descending takes a long time because the reduction is only partial, so it has to be
repeated downwards until it reaches the final result. This method is very good to use in the form
of multiple problems and problems that require speed because this method is very efficient in
terms of time.

3.4 NEW DRAWBACKS

This method cannot be used in all types of problems. This method can only be used in certain
problem forms.

8
CHAPTER IV
PROCESS

In the old method, the formula rules and how to work went through a long series of
processes. Where we first have to know which function is symbolized by U and V. Then, each
function symbol U and V are derived and proceed with the process of working with the formula
u ' v−uv '
'= . And after that the final result is obtained.
v2
Meanwhile, in the new method to obtain the value of its derivative, the numerator is
derived by multiplying the power to the coefficient and variable then adding it to the variable b.
Then, the denominator itself is simply squared without experiencing any other processes. So that
the formula becomes y ' = ua ( c )+ b .

9
CHAPTER V
RESULT
5 x 2 +2
Based on the old method y=
−x 2−3
−26 x
the results obtained y= it turned out to be the same as the new method. So it can be
¿¿
concluded that the new method has the same accuracy. For this reason, a new method can be
used to solve integral function problems.
