Good morning, everyone.

My name is DAFID and I’m a

STUDENT at PERTAMINA UNIVERSITY. Today, I’d like to talk
to you about GEOTHERMAL ENERGY and hopefully, this will
act as a springboard for discussion. I plan to speak for about
10 minutes, and my talk will be divided into 4 sections; the
first is DEFINITION OF GEOTHERMAL ENERGY. And second,
we’ll learn about GEOTHERMAL RESERVOIR. Third, I will
explain about Extraction & Uses of Geothermal Energy .and
finally i will explain about Electriciy generation of geothermal
energy. I’d sure be glad to answer any questions at the end of
my presentation, so please hold your questions if you have
any.”
WHAT IS GE : Geothermal energy is heat derived within the
sub-surface of the earth. Water and/or steam carry the
geothermal energy to the Earth’s surface. Depending on its
characteristics, geothermal energy can be used for heating
and cooling purposes or be harnessed to generate clean
electricity. In the global push to end reliance on fossil fuels,
green energy sources like solar and wind power have gotten
lots of attention. But geothermal energy is another
environmentally friendly energy source. It’s the underground
heat left over from the molten rocks that formed Earth
billions of years ago, and it can be tapped to heat buildings
and generate electricity.
GEOTHERMAL ENERGY HAVE RESERVOIR. THE Reservoirs can
be suspected in the areas where we find IN THE:
Geyser,Boiling mud pot,Volcano,AND Hot springs
Geothermal energy is present even below the coldest parts
of Earth’s surface — if you dig deep enough. In most places,
Earth’s heat is trapped at depths of more than 20 miles. But
in so-called geological hotspots, geothermal energy is near
the surface — and is apparent in geysers, hot springs and
volcanic eruptions. People have exploited geothermal energy
for tens of thousands of years, using it to cook and bathe, for
example. During the Roman Empire, about 2,000 years ago,
hot springs were used for public baths and underfloor
heating — as in the famous spa town of Bath, England.Today,
geothermal energy tapped via holes drilled in the ground is
used to heat and cool houses and other buildings. The
underground environment functions as a sort of heat
reservoir, with heat being drawn up into a building during
cold weather and excess heat being dumped underground to
lower indoor temperatures during hot weather. The cost of a
geothermal heat pump system varies according to the
climate and other factors. A typical residential system might
be twice that of a conventional heating and cooling system,
but geothermal heating and cooling systems can cut utility
costs by up to 60 percent.Geothermal heat is also used in
certain industrial and agricultural processes — for example,
to dry lumber and crops.
To extract geothermal heat, the hot water is pumped out of
the deep subsoil and the heat is extracted using a heat
exchanger. The cooled water is then pumped back and
eventually heats up again because of the heat in the Earth. A
geothermal installation therefore consists of at least two
wells, one for the production of hot water, the production
well, and one for the injection of cooled water, the injection
well. The distance between these two wells in the deep
subsoil is about 1 to 2 kilometres, and therefore they are
partly drilled at an angle. DIRECT USE OF GEOTHERMAL
ENERGYHot springs, used as spas.
1. Heating water at fish farms.
2. Provide heat for buildings.
3. Raising plants in greenhouses,
drying crops.
4. Provides heat to
industrial processes
FINALLY I WILL EXPLAIN ABOUT Electriciy generation of
geothermal energy. Electricity generation is the process of
generating electric power from sources of primary energy.
For utilities in the electric power industry, it is the stage prior
to its delivery to end users (transmission, distribution, etc.) or
its storage (using, for example, the pumped-storage method).
There are 3 types of Geothermal Power Plant Dry Steam
power plant Flash steam power plant AND Binary cycle power
plant
Dry steam POWER plants use hydrothermal fluids that are
primarily steam. The steam travels directly to a turbine,
which drives a generator that produces electricity. The steam
eliminates the need to burn fossil fuels to run the turbine
(also eliminating the need to transport and store fuels).
Flash Steam Power Plants are the most common form of
geothermal power plant. The hot water is pumped under
great pressure to the surface. When it reaches the surface
the pressure is reduced and as a result some of the water
changes to steam. This produces a 'blast' of steam
AND BINARY STEAM POWER PLANT IS A binary cycle power
plant is a type of geothermal power plant that allows cooler
geothermal reservoirs to be used than is necessary for dry
steam and flash steam plants
CONLUCION
Geothermal ENERGY heating system can replace fossil fuel
heating system in a particular area, Annual costs for
common heating purposes can be reduced by more than
60%. Continued energy shortages have created added
interest in geothermal energy for power generation. AND
Geothermal energy appears to be a partial solution to our
energy needs.
