Generator Starts and Connects When Remote Start Contact is Closed and

Generator is in Auto
Scope: This test veri es that the Caterpillar EMPCP 4.4 generator controller on a Caterpillar XQ570,
455kW prime, portable emergency generator is in the "AUTO" posi on, and a ba ery nega ve start
signal is read by the generator controller on contact "RR" inside the customer connec on box, the
controller will start the generator, close the generator output breaker and then illuminate the red circuit
breaker "CLOSED" LED indicator.

The following requirements are included in this procedure:

1. The Caterpillar EMCP 4.4 generator controller shall start the generator, close the generator
output breaker and illuminate the red circuit breaker “CLOSED” LED when the remote start dry
contact (RR) is remotely closed and a source ground is sent back the generator controller (low
signal input is read on terminal RR).

• Generator engine oil level is between the “Full” and “Add” marks on the dips ck.
• Generator engine coolant level can be seen within the expansion tank sight glass.
• Generator is properly grounded.
• Proper generator load and load cable phasing has been tested and veri ed with a phase rota on
meter.
• Generator ba ery disconnect is on, EMCP 4.4 controller is powered and screen is illuminated.
• Generator EMCP 4.4 controller shows no ac ve faults other than “Generator Not In Auto”.
