ACTIVITY – A)

In your own words, describe how the following artists’ Filipino heritage is seen through

their works.

1.) Rodel Tapaya


- Rodel utilizes themes influenced by Philippine culture and literature, as well as folk themes and mythology
from Filipino folktales such as manananggals, tikbalangs, and Bernardo Carpio, to add conceptual significance
and importance to his audiences, and these mystical components are being used as a satire on the problems of
civilization nowadays, which portrayed his Filipino heritage.
2.) Dexter Sy
- -sy, a half Chinese half Filipino, therefore his works of art are a mix of both of  Chinese and Filipino. We can
really see the Filipino heritage in his pieces of art as how and what he had stated of about his artwork "The Sell
Recognized by Others", which is a depiction of his Family in black and white, he clarified that in the
Philippines, when individuals figured out that you are a Filipino-Chinese, they immediately believe that you are
rich, which isn't always truth or reality.

3.) Ronald Riel Jaramillo Hilario


- Ronald Riel Jaramillo Hilario utilizes traditional woodcarving techniques in his artworks to depict Filipino
society. His sculptural creations have the unique feel of wood-carved religious symbolism of Catholicism.
However, he believes that sculptures can be more than just historical objects, but also representations of our
viewpoints and, as a result, our sense of belonging.

4.) Clifford Espinosa


- Clifford Espinosa is an architect, musician, and environmentalist from the Philippines. He maintains that his
furniture should be both functional and aesthetically pleasing. His artwork and sculpture are unquestionably
masterpieces that represent his Filipino heritage.

5.) John Paul Antido


John Paul Antido is a Filipino contemporary painter whose creations are distinguished by his usages of the
impasto technique, wherein paint is applied so thickly that visible strokes remain in the final work, which
represents or describing his Filipino heritage.

6.) Ricky Ambagan


- Ricky Ambagan – The Filipino heritage can be seen in his drawings, which represent modern
Filipino's everyday lives. in his creation  "Mga Langgam Sa Syudad",  His titian paintings on burlap depict the
chaotic and crowded streets of Manila.

7.) Aze Ong

- Aze Ong was raised in Antipolo City. His works reflect his Filipino heritage, as she explores the possible
scenarios with using fiber as an artistic medium. She is also recognized for her vibrant and herbal crocheted
thread forms. She doesn't use the patterns whenever making her pieces, which is among the reasons why each
creation she produces is special and original.

8.) Alma Quinto


- Alma Quinto – An artist, educator, and cultural worker from Urdaneta, Pangasinan.  Filipino heritage can be
seen in his novels, as she depicted many novels, such As on the Night of Sendong: Narratives of Children
Survivors, which expressed the stories of the children's survivors from Typhoon Sendon.
