“Dreamweavers”

1. )What forms of traditional art can you identify in the

video?

=Hinabing Panaginip or Dream Weavers, a documentary

video directed by Fruto Corre is about the life of the people from
Northern Cotobato; the T’bolis. The whole process of making the
old T’nalak; one of the most remarkable creations of the T’bolis,
was presented in the video. Weaving is the traditional art that
was shown in the video.

2. )What do these narratives tell us about the characters

of traditional arts?

=They tell us about the different artworks that is a great

inspiration. It reminds us that they will always exist despite of the
each factor that tries to change the tradition. Those indigenous
people create their pieces with passion and determination, that
every designs has a symbol and has a big story behind it. They
never missed a chance to express their talents and message to
the people who already forget the traditions of their places, they
treasure every moment that they have inorder to continue their
missions in preserving their traditions.
3. )How are the artists portrayed in the videos? Take for
example, the Dreamweaver which talks about how a
Manlilikha ng Bayan like Lang Dulay derives her patterns
from dreams. Does Lang Dulay`s dreamwork come cross
as strange or exotic? Or do this account of dreams and
creativity give you another perspective on the process of
creation? And that it is possible to create something out of
dreams?

=The artists portrayed in the videos are hardworking

people that really love what they are doing. They are very skillful
in every steps that they do in the process of weaving. Lang
Dulay’s dreamwork really does come across as astrange and
exotic because her artworks are the result of her unique way, by
the use of her dreams. She really put a big mark on the history of
the world . She knows hundreds of designs and these designs
inspires a lot of artist and changes a person’s perspective in life
since every special artwork that she makes that has a story
behind it.

4. )What specific factors cause changes in art

production?

=The invasion of the outsiders, the pressures of the modern

world like the advancement of technologies, and the mindset of
the new generations of today are the factors that cause
changes in art production. It also made the young people go
into new things and most of us forget our traditional arts because
we are slowly drowning of the modernity of the world like the
social medias. However, there is also an advantage of the
existence of the technologies, it let us know about the history of
our traditional arts, dances, and etc. And those indigenous
people who live in far mountains never surrender and never lose
hope on continuing their passion and detrmination in keeping
their raditions alive. They deserve to be seen and to b
discovered.

REACTION PAPER: DREAMWEAVERS

1. What forms of traditional art can you identify in the video?

The forms of Art that I identified in the video is the

weaving of the people from the north places here in our
country. The form of art in here is weaving. One of the
maticulous forms of art. It needed a lot of patient and
perseverance.
2. What do these narratives tell us about the characters of traditional arts?

The characters are some indigenous people from the north

like Lang Dulay who is a highly known people when it
comes to weaving art. The other character is a widowed
who is doing arts or weaving in order to survive, she is
weaving and selling it to earn money for her everday life.

3. How are the artists portrayed in the videos? Take for example, the
Dreamweaver which talks about how a Manlilikha ng Bayan like Lang Dulay
derives her patterns from dreams. Does Lang Dulay`s dreamwork come cross as
strange or exotic? Or do this account of dreams and creativity give you another
perspective on the process of creation? And that it is possible to create
something out of dreams?

They are using abacca as a raw material to weave. They

dipped it in colored juices from the colorful plants. They do
everything in a tradional manner. And also, the materials
that they are using are pure organic which we can find in
our nature or even in our backyard.

4.What specific factors cause changes in art production?

The factors that can affect an art production are the

following: first, the nature withou having enough raw
material they can’t make enough art. Another thing is the
modernization, the modernization is affecting the art
today. They are not passing their practice to their younger
generations thus, it prevents their own culture to spread
more.
