Reaction paper:
This video that I watched is a women’s volleyball tournament in the University Athletic
Association of the Philippines or the UAAP, Season 82. For their first game of the season, the De
La Salle Lady Spikers will be thrown immediately to the fire as they take on the defending
champions Ateneo Lady Eagles at the Mall of Asia Arena. After watching the game, I enjoyed the
matchup of these two teams because one of my favorite teams in women’s volleyball is the De
Lasalle Lady Spikers wherein they produce a very good setup and play against the Ateneo Lady
Eagles. In addition, as we all know that these two teams had been a rivalry in the past seasons of
UAPP so that it will give a very good game to the audience and gives the most heated game in the
entire history of the UAAP. Also, I noticed that both teams are going through a period of transition
as they adapt to the loss of veteran talent. In the end, the La Salle Lady Spikers began their UAAP
Season 82 campaign with a bang, defeating the Ateneo Lady Eagles in four sets, 25-17, 17-25, 25-
17, and 25-15.
While watching the game, I notice that there are different volleyball officials on the court,
the first is the first and second referee. The first referee has authority over all other members of
the officiating crew. Before the match begins, the first and second referees may meet to discuss
topics such as pre-match procedures and everything else that can make the match run more
smoothly. While the second referee should establish a rapport with the scorekeeper and libero
tracker. If the scorer and libero tracker have a question or don't understand anything, they should
feel free to seek assistance from the second referee. Next is the Scorekeeper or the Scorer, the key
responsibility of the scorekeeper is to ensure that the score is right at all times. The scorekeeper
keeps track of the game on a score sheet. Lastly, is the Line Judges, the role of watch the end line
and sideline of their respective corners. The key duty of the line judge is to issue signals to assist
the referees in making decisions. Line judges can be told to render the signals with flags. Officials
play a crucial role in the organization of competitions. They provide participants with leadership
and encouragement, ensuring that the competition is run safely and fairly. Integrity, fairness,
trustworthiness, and respect are all important qualities in the official's position.

After watching the game, I appreciate the attitude of the Ateneo Lady Eagles on how they
execute some plays even though they win only one set. Also, the team of La Salle Lady Spikers
even though they lose in the second set they fully utilize their plays and some error to execute their
powerful techniques to win the remaining two sets to win against the defending champion of
Women’s Volleyball, UAAP season 81. Throughout the game, I observed that both teams fully
execute the different basic and advanced skills in volleyball. First is serving, in the game, overhand
serves are most common, and the two overhead serves are the topspin and the floater. Also, some
of the players use jump serve wherein it is more advanced and utilizes an even higher toss that
should be several feet in front of the server. Next is Digging, most players use this because it is a
defensive maneuver in volleyball that can save your team from an offensive spike or attack. The
next one is the setter is the most valuable player on the team, and she is frequently the team's
leader. It is their responsibility to make it as simple as possible for a teammate to get the ball over
the volleyball net, hopefully with a spike that the opposing team cannot return. Another one is
blocking, you can deflect or block the opponent's attack before it even hits the volleyball net if you
time it correctly. That’s why most plays in the game are being blocked by the opponent because
they didn’t want to lose a score. Besides, while enjoying the game I noticed that their spikes are
so powerful because it is a real crowd-pleaser, wherein spiking is described as slamming the ball
across the volleyball net to the opposing team's side of the court in a downward motion. The last
skill is passing, while watching the game, most of their passing is always done on the fingertips
using two hands wherein the higher the ball is pushed into the air, the more time their teammate
has to react and guide the ball to a specific place. So that, passing is a very important skill in
volleyball because, without a strong volleyball pass, neither team can return the ball.
