SCULPTURE IN MINDANAO

Sculpture - is the branch of the visual arts that operates in three dimensions. It is one of the plastic
arts. Durable sculptural processes originally used carving and modelling, in stone, metal, ceramics, wood

Sculpture in Mindanao
Most of the art sculpture in Mindanao is best known for its relation to the nature, faith and love of
culture. Kubblai Millan’s is a multi-awarded artist that makes ten monuments a year. His art sculpture is
usually big because according to his statement, “Dahil walang pumapansin sa'kin, ginawa kong malaki
ang art ko”, and this is very evident to all of his artworks.

The mentioned art sculpture below and its background/significant:


1. "Kampilan" in Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao
- Kampilan is a single-edged steel sword with a handle made of hand carved ivory. The Kampilan
is specifically made for warfare, used either in small skirmishes or in large-scale encounters, and it is
made by the sculptor to remember the braveness of the Filipino people.
2. "Risen Christ" in a church in Tagum City
-An 85.5-meter-long rosary, made of linked beads, lines a pathway going to the giant bronze
statue of the Risen Christ. It is to preserve the faith of the people in Mindanao, to keep people from their
faith and continue living with the guidance of the Almighty.

- the various inhabitants of the city is housed inside the Giant Durian as if the people of
Mindanao are welcoming you in diversity which on the outside may look dangerous and uninviting. But
what makes it a city worthy of international proclaim is the community within the city that invites you
into their home and keeps you coming back.
4. Giant eagle and Bagobo children inside the People's Park, Davao City
- the sculpture displays a gigantic eagle with wings wide open and he different tribes of Davao
City under it to show sovereignty over the land. The eagle represent the Davao city and the different
communities, and an eagle is known for being resilient, strong and brave just like the said City.

5. Ray Mudjahid Ponce Millan better known as Kublai Millan or Kublai is a prolific artist from
Mindanao. He is known for his giant sculptures. Aside from being a sculptor, he is also an art
photographer, painter, digital artist and performance artist.
