Personal Statement

I am very thankful to have ended up where I am today. Without the full support of both of
my parents I probably couldn't have gotten this far. Both of my parents never went to college and
for the most part no one in my immediate family has either. They all have done well in life
without going to college, but in this day and age a college degree is a requirement for most good
paying jobs. Even though neither of my parents went to college they still have devoted their all to
helping send me to college.
Early in life, my dad started out laying roofs for his grandfather, but he quickly realized
that he did not want to do that the rest of his life and signed on for the Air Force. He served for 8
years at Langley Air Force base in Virginia and even went overseas to take part in the Gulf War.
While he was serving, he worked on the avionic systems of the F-15 fighter jet and made sure
each aircraft was ready for any combat scenario pilots may encounter. He has a love for aircraft
and even tells me that he really didn't want to leave the Air Force but wanted more time with his
family. I feel that due to his time working on aircraft, that experience has rubbed off on me as I
want to devote my life to the skies and beyond.
I plan to attend Penn State DuBois for two years then finish my degree at the main
campus to pursue a degree in aerospace engineering. Ever since I was a child, I have had a
fascination with humanities flying machines. I find it incredible that someone sat down and
designed a machine that has the ability to fly and even venture into outer space. I often sit down
and think about how cool that very concept is and how I surely want to jump on board with
something in the aerospace field. I have always had a dream about designing the first faster than
light engine. Sure that is very over the top and even highly improbable, but that has not stopped
me from seeking a way to achieve that goal.
Because of my dad’s career experience, I have been inspired to pursue my own career in
aeronautics. I look forward to making my mark in the field in whatever way possible.
