Macrohonanon ranks 5th in Civil Registration Quiz nationwide-level

One of the highlights of this year’s 31st Civil Registration Month with the
theme “Strengthening Civil Registration and Vital Statistics’ Digital Information: The Ways
to Manage the New Normal,” is the first National Quiz Bee held virtually by the
Philippine Statistics Authority Central Office last February 23, 2021.

In a ‘Kapihan sa PIA’ held last Wednesday, PSA-Southern Leyte Head Eutemio Llevado
disclosed that the activity was in relation to their 1-month celebration of Civil
Registration Month that is celebrated every February.

According to him, PSA-8 conducted the first Regional Elimination round last February
18, 2021 with participants from the Local Civil Registry Offices from different provinces
in Eastern Visayas.

“We usually tap students as our contestants for our annual quiz bee. However, due to
pandemic, it was decided that it will be participated by the local civil registrars as a way
also of examining their knowledge about their work,” Llevado said.

The contest was being done virtually using Kahoot game application. There are 5
contestants/representatives for every province as a team.

“For team Southern Leyte, we have Hinundayan MCR Victoria Calvar; San Francisco MCR
Pio Rosales; Padre Burgos MCR Renan Maglinte; St. Bernard MCR Catalina Esquijo and
Macrohon MCR Armeda Maitem, as our representatives,” the official added.

Accordingly, questions asked in the quiz bee were all importantly related to civil
registration and vital statistics.

As a result, Macrohon Civil Registrar Armeda Maitem defeated her contenders and
emerged as the champion in regional level.

She’s also the official representative of PSA Region 8 to the first ever National Quiz Bee
on CRVS.

It was learned that among the 17 regions in the Philippines, Eastern Visayas (Region 8),
represented by Maitem ranked 5th, with CARAGA as the over-all champion, followed by
Region 2, Region 10 and Bicol region.
