Men
I encourage you to try a makeup artist. If you plan to be clean shaved, ideally: shave, moisturise
and soothe any razor burn before arrival to let the skin settle. If you do not want to use a MUA,
use concealer on blemishes, buy and apply a tinted moisturiser Eg: ‘Invisible Zinc Tinted
Daywear SPF30’, and drench your lips in pawpaw ointment for the 24 hours before you see me.
If you use your friends to do your makeup, the aim is to not look like you’re wearing makeup. If I
can see your makeup, the camera can too.
Clothing
• Bring clothes that make you feel good about yourself - imagine you’re dressing for an audition
to play the best version of you.
• Equally as important is bringing a selection. Choice helps.
• Structure and shape are good - slouchy is not good - dirty is worse.
• Patterns can be fun.
• Don’t be afraid! Be your smart-casual, sexy self!
• Use my website as a reference for what works.

Headspace
Before your shoot, during your shoot and after your shoot (when making your selections)
you need to focus on the communicative function of these photos. That is: to present to the
world the image of a person who is professional, open, relaxed, warm, employable. The pressure
and vanity of looking ‘hot’ or ‘cool’ will cripple you and make you anxious. It will inhibit your
ability to take direction and block your breathing. Let go of those expectations or ideas. It’s
unfair on yourself. Looking and being professional, open, relaxed and warm are your tickets to
accessing your charisma on camera and having a headshot that cuts through. Plus, you’ll end
up looking like you! And looking like yourself is your greatest point of difference in the
marketplace.
Unburden yourself of expectation. The relaxation you need for a great audition, for
walking onto stage or working on set, is no different to the ease and relaxation you need for a
great headshot. Don’t be bungled by traffic or last minute distractions. Do things that help you
be calm, centred and breathing before the shoot; yoga, Alexander technique, meditation, jogging,
swimming, stretching, tea drinking, massage.
And finally, don’t stay out late or drink the night before. Stay off the cigarettes before and during
your shoot. They redden your eyes and blanche your skin. Get your sleep and drink lots of water.
Sleep and hydration make you look awesome and feel good.
Weather
If weather looks like it will interfere with your booking, I always endeavour to give you the next
available appointment, re-arrange a suitable time or refund your deposit. Rescheduling is far
better than enduring wind, rain, cold or extreme heat for sub-par results. Cancellation may occur
the night before, or even the day of your shoot if poor conditions prevail - we are in Melbourne
afterall! I apologise for this inconvenience and appreciate that it can be frustrating, especially if
you’re unfortunate enough to get a few bad weather days - but I assure you it’s in your best
interests.
