Teaching Philosophy

My philosophy as a physical education teacher would be to develop physically literate

students and instill the critical elements of daily life into the children. I will promote

inclusion and motivate the students to try their best throughout the whole unit. I grew up in a

very large, close, and athletic family. This influenced my strong passion for all sports and

lifetime activities, as well as a strong understanding of the vital components of life and social

interaction. It is my goal as a physical educator to make sure all students develop their movement

skills, acknowledge physical activity as an important aspect of life after school, and most

importantly, have fun while motivating their classmates.

The type of teacher that I will be is one that is passionate and determined about my job

and helping each and every student improve in each domain of physical education and the

important aspects of life. The four domains that I will help students develop in are the

psychomotor, cognitive, affective, and fitness domains. These are all important aspects of

physical education that contribute to making a developmentally appropriate program. I will work

everyday on promoting a safe, positive, and inclusive environment for every student, teacher,

and member of the school district. The types of methods I will use are direct and command

teaching. I will also include peer teaching, intra task variation, and also general and corrective

feedback to the students.

The types of assessment that I will use as a physical educator are formal and informal

assessments. I will have them participate in pre assessments so they are familiar with what they

are good at and what we need to work on. I will use rubrics and checklist to make sure the

students are incorporating the critical elements of each activity. Also, I will have the students

take a cognitive quiz for each unit to help fully emphasize the content. This will help me make

developmentally appropriate lessons and help each student improve to their fullest abilities. This

will also help students set goals and keep motivation. If they know what they need to improve on

they can make specific goals to strive for.

It is very important to me as a teacher that every student I come in contact with feels safe

and included. To have that the classroom must be judgement free and a “no bully zone” Each

student should feel comfortable with their abilities and who they are. I will incorporate this

inclusion into my lessons by asking the students what they would like to do and using that in the

lessons. Also, by having the students work in small groups to help build their social skills and

their affective domain by working with classmates and including everyone. This will allow each

student to contribute to the lesson and everyone will participate in things they like to do and

maybe some things they have never done.

In conclusion, my main concern for teaching is to make every student feel safe and

included while building their physical skills in all of the domains. It is also important to me that I

help them grow and develop as people so they can take the skills and aspects they have learned

into life after school.
