Praface
The marine high pressure water-based mist fire fighting
system is designed according to the requirements for “IMO
MSC / circ. 913 Resolution” and “Installation guide for local
fixed water-based fire fighting system in A class machinery
spaces” which were adopted by 71st MSC annul meeting. The
conspicuous characteristic of the system is that nozzle adopt
high pressure strong vortex flow water mist type in order to
energy saving, environmental protection and high efficiency of
fire fighting.

Instruction For Water Mist System In Engine

Room
1. Design Standard
The fixed local water mist fire fight system is designed based
on ship general arrangement plan and engine room arrangement
plan provided by shipyard.
The system technical performance accord with SOLAS
relevant regulation. The complete set satisfies the rule 2001
edition of CCS ( China Classification Society ), amendment
circular 2002 and 2004, and SOLAS 2004 amendment.
1.1 Classification : CCS
1.2 System release method
Local manual release and remote-control release ( to set
up the changeover switch on control panel ).
1.3 Power supply
Main power: AC 380V, 3P, 50Hz;
Control power: AC 220V, 1P, 50Hz and DC 24V.
1.4 Fresh water supply
The system is connected with fresh water tank of ship
by pipe joint DN50 and required static supply. The capacity
of system high pressure pump unit is met the demands of
biggest section.
2. Protected section
In some equipment space shall be set water-based mist fire
fighting system according to requirements for IMO MSC /
CIRC. 913 resolution and installation guide for local fixed
water-based fire fighting system in A class machinery space, so
the protected section is as following:
(1) Main engine;

(2) Boiler;
(3) Auxiliary engine;
(4) Oil- exhaust gas fired boiler;
(5) Fuel separator.
The protection class of electrical equipment shall be at least
IP23.
3. Main technical specification
Main power: AC 380V, 3P,50Hz;
Control power: AC 220V, 1P, 50Hz and DC 24V;
Motor of high pressure pump unit: 7.5 kW, F, IP44;
Control panel protection class: IP22;
Design pressure of water mist system: 10 MPa;
Work pressure range of nozzle: 9~11 MPa;
Capacity of high pump unit : 38 l /min.
4. Alarm display
The fire detection and alarm system is set in the water mist
fire fighting system.
4.1 The audible and visual alarm is sent out by local manual
control panel when the smoke and temperature detectors
are activated simultaneous, and fire zone name is
displayed on remote-control release panel in engine
control room and on expand display panel in the
weelhouse.
4.2 The audible and visual alarm is sent out on pump control
panel, remote-control release panel in engine control room
and the release section when water mist system is released.
4.3 The alarm is occurred on remote-control panel in engine
control room and on expand display panel in weelhouse
when the system failure is occurred.
4.4 The alarm is occurred on remote-control panel in engine

limited.
5. Working principle of the system
The system is high pressure water-based mist fire fighting
system, the working principle is that when high pressure fresh
water is flowed via dispersive nozzle and fine grain water mist
to be spouted in order to control fire ( oil kind ) A class
machinery space.
The system has automatic and manual control mode. When
the fire signal is sent out from fire detectors in protection point
and after is confirmed via the system control station, water mist
is automatically blown off from nozzle and or manually to press
the button on manual control box to start the pump and valves
automatically then water mist is blown off from nozzle so as to
control the fire and to protect the equipment.
The material of nozzle is stainless steel, for the detail
technical data, refer to attachment. The nozzle type is approval
by CCS ( for the certificate of type approval, refer to
attachment ).
After the system is started, if don’t press the stop button, the
system will continuously blown off water mist until water is
finished.
The system requires motor protection class is lower i.e. IP23
only.
The system component is as following:
(1) High pressure strong vortex flow water mist
nozzle;
(2) Flame and smoke detectors;
(3) Signal receiver and fire control box, manual
operation box and expand display panel etc.;
(4) Pressure water supply unit;

Control electromagnetic valves for atomizing
point;
(6) Audible and visual alarm;

6. Design for system
Working temperature range is 10 ~ 55o C, other parts are
described respectively as following.
6.1 Nozzle
Type: HTW-1.27-03 high pressure strong vortex flow
water mist nozzle;
Working pressure: 90 ~110 bar;
Water mist grain size: smaller than 150 μm and grain
more than 95% in protected section;
Flow rate: see flow rate curve (Figure 1 );
Dispersive cone angle: 110o;

Horizontal range: less than 2m when nozzle is installed

Coverage area: more than 5m (diameter) under installation
height;
Material: 1Cr18Ni9Ti.

6.2 Pressure water supply unit

Efficient volume: more than 1000 L.

Diameter: DN10,DN18;
Working pressure: max. 140 bar;
Drive: AC motor (AC220V, 1P, 50Hz);

6.3 Electrical equipment
(1) Water mist control panel and pump-valve control
panel
Protection class: IP22;
Function: To display fire space and send out alarm
signal when receiving fire signal from flame and
smoke detectors in atomizing point, then to send out
automatic fire fighting signal to control pump and
electromagnetic valve; or to send out fire fighting
signal by manual mode to control pump and
electromagnetic valve.
Response time: response time of alarm is 5 seconds
to 2 minutes and delay time from receiving fire
signal to send out automatic fire fighting signal is 5
seconds to 2 minutes ( adjustable), but for manual
mode, the delay time is not limited.
(2) Expand display panel
Function: fire space alarm, fire fighting section
display and system failure alarm.
(3) Manual release button box
Function: start / stop fire fighting signal by manual
button; and to display fire fighting status.
7. Installation

7.1 Nozzle quantity selection for fire protected section

The maximum design working pressure of system is 11
MPa, and actual protected area of single nozzle is circular area
which radius is R= 1.75.
7.2 Installation conditions of nozzle design
Installation status: nozzle is fixed vertically upper fire
fighting section and nozzle outlet is down. Around
atomizing section of nozzle which can’t be sheltered by
pipe and other objects;
Installation pitch: max. 3.5m between two nozzles;
Installation height of nozzle : min. 1.5m, max. 4.0m is a
distance from the protective target.
7.3 Water supply unit
The unit is fixed on stronger rigidity space of ship, and shall
set vibration absorbers on foundation to avoid vibration in order
to protect equipment.
The pump is installed as near water tank as possible and
under the water tank in order to supply water sufficiently.
7.4 Piping installation
To get balance water pressure in each nozzle and to reduce
pressure losing, it shall adopt the bend technique which radius is
more than 150 mm, and to require smooth, beautiful and
non-deformable.
All pipes shall be fixed reliably by fixtures.
7.5 Electrical equipment
Manual operation box be mounted on wall the each
atomizing section and to set up the eye-catching mark and along
safe walkway as possible for operator leaving safely.
8. Work procedure of system
The system shall be assured to work continuously at least 20
minutes at the biggest atomizing section.

The work mode of the system is both automatic and manual.

When flame in protected section is detected by smoke
detector and temperature detector, the fire space is displayed on
control box and fire alarm is sent up .
When automatic control mode is selected , after the fire is
firmed from flame by control panel of the system, the fire
fighting signal will be sent up automatically, and water valve is
opened and water pump is started, then atomizing is processed
automatically.
When manual control mode is selected, the fire fighting
signal is sent up by pressing button manually.
The work procedure of system under running is as following

If the fire alarm is not sent up, but while real need of
starting the water mist fire fighting system, the start button on
manual control box of the fire section shall be pressed.
If need of changing the position for atomizing point in the
course of fire fighting, the operation procedure is as following
If need of stopping the fire fighting, the stop button of system

control box or manual control box shall be pressed..
9. Maintenance
9.1 To check control panel and display panel every day.
9.2 To check running status of motor and pump ( about pressure,
noise etc. ) and piping and cable line every month.

9.3 To check each valve and nozzle, each alarm and piping filter,
then to test for atomizing per 3 months.
9.4 To overhaul valves and nozzles、change gaskets、clean
piping、repair pump and change filter. After overhauling to
check running status of pump and testing for atomizing per 5
years.

Preface
This specification describes detailed work principle、system
design 、 operation 、 analysis and elimination of failure and
maintenance etc.. The specification is suited to
open-start/maintenance personnel for starting、commissioning
and servicing， and also suited to user for routine maintenance.

1. Brief
FCU-5000 type signal circuit fire alarm device is newest type
intelligent fire alarm controller put out buy our company. It
has diversified intelligent features, e.g. drift compensating、
smooth processing 、 sensitivity adjustment 、 comprehensive
multiple detector detecting and maintenance alarm etc.，and can
detect accurately initial fire.
The controller is of 500 series intelligent type detector and
necessary modules and 900 series intelligent type detector and
necessary modules.
2. Product features
(1) Liquid crystal display
240 x 64 picture element LCD display panel by
Chinese words, which can detail to display the concrete
alarm position e.g. the layer number、code number、
machine number in order to prepare、timely and overall
grasp the alarm information for operator.
(2) Show consideration and convenient programming
It has multistage early-warning sensitivity and
adjusting sensitivity of each detector according to

requirement, and has the function of failure shield

witch can select equipment kind and single address to
shield, this function will convenience the system
commissioning and routine maintenance.
(3) A wealth of control output for matrix
Each codress unit can take parting logical
programming many times. The control output object
may be appointive single output module and also may
be all output module of appointive area.
(4) Accurate and detailed event record
Newest occurred fire alarm、linkage between failure
and control module 、 monitoring feedback event of
module can be recorded and saved as classify for easy
inquiring. Each event can be saved to 200 articles at
most.
(5) Perfect automatic compensation function
The influence of slow variety for non-fire factor
outside on the system is compensated in order to keep
detectable ability to avoid wrong alarm.
(6) Reliable self-diagnostic and protective function
The detectors and modules and self-diagnosed timed.
When elements are failed or duct is gathered on detector
to or over allowable limit, the failure alarm is sent up,
so the reliability of system has risen greatly.
(7) Automatic account function
The amount of work for open/start and

4. System capacity
The controller’s standard disposal is single circuit control
unit.
Each circuit control unit can connect 99 intelligent
detectors and 99 intelligent input / output modules, the single
machine maximum capacity is 198 codress units.
5. System design
If the more codress units in circuit bus, it shall add to set the
short circuit isolator in front of circuit bus. Codress unit
number between neighboring two isolators is not exceed 25
units.
6. Work principle
The controller is of central control unit、display keyboard、
programming delay control electric circuit、return circuit、
return circuit control unit、stabilivolt power and equipment
unit，the controller is a real-time work system， the data is
transmitted between interface units by adopted IC2 bus serial
communication mode. After central processing unit processes
and judges collected data from circuit interface units, the states
of codress units on each circuit bus of circuit control unit are
determined. Same time the result is transmitted to display
interface unit to display and send out audible and visual alarm
signal, and to save necessary data on FLASH. Besides the
central processing unit is also responsible for monitoring
internal DC power. The sound unit is responsible for fire and
failure alarm.
7. Installation and wire connection
7.1 Construction features

7.2 Requirement for wire connection
All external wire shall be leaded-in from top of controller,
and to be pressed on terminal, this moment to turn off the
power.
Maximum length of wire is not exceeded 1200 m, and
communication baud rate is 2400 BPS.
Serial port data cable is CEF80 / NA-2x1 shielded cable.
VDR communication cable is CEF80 / NA-2x1 shilded
cable.

8. Equipment commissioning
8.1 Checking connection
(1) To decide the controller is normal and has not external
connection on interface of bus.
(2) To open the door of controller to check connection
whether normal or not； and whether loose、shorting and
broken circuit or not；and each plug-and-socket whether loose
or not；and power whether normal and shorting or not inside
alarm controller.
(3) To check dialing code of circuit controller interface unit

whether normal and repetition code or not.

8.2 Checking power on
(1) After checking connection and normal, to switch on
stand-by power and to send out audible and visual alarm signal
displayed by liquid crystal. And after controller works
normally it shall send out audible and visual signal for main
power failure.
(2) To turn–off stand-by power and to connect main power
and to turn-on main power and display by liquid crystal. And
after controller works normally it shall send out audible and
visual signal for stand-by power failure, this moment to
turn-on stand-by power, the alarm controller shall return to
normal work status.
(3) To turn-on main and stand-by power and to work
normally, the main power running lamp on main face plate of
controller shall be lighted and stand-by power running lamp
and power failure lamp shall be darkened.
(4) There are main power, stand-by power and power
failure three statuses indicating lamps on face plate of
controller. When power failure e.g. main power-off or bad
contact、 over voltage or out enough of 5V, 24V、 or shorting
with ground of machine cover, the power failure lamp on face
plate of controller shall be lighted and send out audible and
visual alarm signal， this moment main power running lamp is
darkened and stand-by power running lamp is lighted. The
cocrete failure kind etc. information are displayed on
controller liquid crystal panel.
8.3 External connection
Only after to check each external connecting whether
shorting and broken circuit or not and to work normally, the
external cable can be connected to controller.

We suggest that to adopt the method of batch installation

and commissioning i.e. 10 ~ 20 detectors orinput / output
modules for controller are connected each time, and until
connecting into circuit bus and switch on, then to check
rightness of cycle monitoring detectors and input / output
modules for controller, if failure alarm signal is sent out shall
check line and alarm codress unit to eliminate then to go on
installation and commissioning for next batch until whole
work is normal.
After this, can go on the testing of simulation alarm, fire
alarm and linkage events, to check the rightness of alarm for
controller and to link equipment at site. If some problems are
occurred shall be processed and eliminated immediately, until
controller has entered normal monitoring status.
8.4 Notes
(1) To avoid to contact the chip of integrated circuit on
circuit board when installation.
(2) To note polarity when wiring.
(3) To check shorting、 broken circuit、 reversed polarity
before power-on.
(4) The joints between conductors shall be welded and the
insulation between conductors shall be ensured.
Additional :
The diode measurement function of multimeter is used for
checking connection directivity for circuit codress unit.
When reversed polarity connection, this moment the
multimeter shall indicate bias voltage value of several diodes.
Then the multimeter is connected normally ( i.e. correct
direction) and to get a low resistance value, and to rise along
with changing of circuit capacitance. If the multimeter is still
indicate bias voltage value of diode, that is to say one or more

circuit maybe reversely connected on circuit.

9. Basic function and operation
9.1 Description for indicating lamps and keys
(1) Indicating lamps :
Fire alarm indicating lamp: when detector alarm or
manual alarm button is pressed, the lamp is
lighting;
Running indicating lamp: when main CPU works
normally, the lamp is flashing (0.5 seconds);
Shield indicating lamp: when codress unit is shielded
in system, the lamp is lighting;
Silence indicating lamp: when pressing silencing key,
the lamp is lighting; when event is occurred , the
lamp is darkened;
Linkage indicating lamp: when monitoring module or
control module alarm, the lamp is lighting;
Automatic indicating lamp: when using automatic
control mode, the lamp is lighting;
Delay indicating lamp: when control output is delayed,
the lamp is lighting;
Control indicating lamp: when control output, the lamp
is lighting;
Failure indicating lamp: when system or codress unit
failure, the lamp is lighting;
Main power running indicating lamp: when normal
main power work status, the lamp is lighting;
Stand-by power running indicating lamp: when normal
stand-by power work status, the lamp is lighting;
Power failure indicating lamp: when main power or
stand-by power failure, the lamp is lighting;
Self-diagnosis indicating lamp: when system

self-diagnostic status, the lamp is lighting;

Transmission indicating lamp: when transmitting event
to expand display panel, the lamp is lighting;
(2) Operation keys :
Reset key: for eliminating present system status, and
whole system works again;
Silence key: for eliminating alarm sound of controller;
Self-test key: for instantaneously lighting all
indicating lamps of face plate of controller and
checking sound.
(3) Function keys :
F1 ~ F5 keys : for programming operation of
controller;
0 ~ 9 keys : for programming operation of controller;
“ Enter”、 “Esc”and direction keys ：for programming
operation of controller.
9.2 Start of system
After to switch in 220V AC power, first to switch on
main power switch, then to switch on stand-by power switch,
and controller enters work status.

9.3 Priority of alarm events
Priority of alarm event for controller:
Alarm system: event、failure、feedback、linkage、fire alarm
（ from high to low ）.

If alarm kind is more than one, the display is transformed by

left or right key; if present alarm quantity is more than one, the
display is transformed by up or down key.
If not press the key for checking, next alarm event will be
displayed automatically per 5 seconds.
When failure alarm is occurred, its signal is sent up
immediately by failure relay.
Note: All failure events are displayed on this interface
which include detectors、 modules、 power failure and expand

display panel failure etc. , and they are counted into total failure
quantity. The quantity of detector fire event and detector shield
is displayed in this interface.

When linkage alarm is occurred, its signal is sent up
immediately by linkage relay.
Note: All linkage events are displayed on this interface
which include control modules , and they are counted into total
linkage quantity. The quantity of monitoring module event and
detector shield is displayed.

When fire alarm is occurred, its signal is sent up
immediately by fire alarm relay, but for fire delay relay alarm
will be sent up after to delay 2 minutes. If press the silence key
the fire alarm and fire alarm delay relay is canceled. If press the
silence key within alarm2 minutes and fire alarm signal will not
be sent out by fire alarm delay relay.
Note: All detector fire events are displayed on this interface
which include smoke ion detector 、 photoelectric smoke
detectors、temperature detectors、laser detectors and manual
buttons etc. , and they are counted into total fire alarm quantity.

9.4 Checking time
When press the “Programming” key and input the checking
time cipher “111111”, the checking time interface can be
entered.
The controller has 24 hours system clock with power-off
protection, and present time is displayed real-time at upper right
of liquid crystal face plate.
The clock’s feathers are high accuracy, automatically
adjusting leap year、leap month and manual adjusting. The
clock’s display form is “ (hour) : (minute) : (second)”. When
press “checking time” key, controller points out user to input the
cipher ( six-figure number, acquiesce in “111111” ) as following:

following interface, user through to move cursor ”-“ and input
relative digits for revision of day and time.

date is bigger 31 etc., it will be not saved.

To press “Return” key as soon as to save the new set; to

press “Esc” key as soon as to cancel the operation.
10. Use and maintenance

User shall notes as follows in the course of running to
ensure equipment running reliability.
(1) The controller shall be installed and commissioning by
technical personnel of fire fighting specialty;
(2) Person on duty shall familiar the building construction
and grasp various state and operation;
(3) To note observing controller state and to eliminate
various failure in time;
(4) Manual release button on controller is manual mist
operation key of system, can not will operate.
(5) Manual / automatic changeover switch on control face
plate is set specially for manual / automatic
changeover, when need at manual state for system
running and it shall be turn to manual position, this
moment if fire is occurred the controller only alarm
and not release mist and need to start release key.
When need at automatic state for system running and
it shall be turn to automatic position, this moment if
fire is occurred, and temperature detector and smoke
detector sends out signal or the protection section is
under operation state of automatic release key, then the
controller automatically control pump starting box and
release water mist.
(6) If power cut time is exceeded 8 hours, the stand-by
power shall be cut to avoid damage because of over
release.
(7) When basis construction is carried out, the power of

fire fighting equipment shall be cut off and equipment

shall be protected.
Note : Under non-working state (transport, store etc.)
stand-by power shall be switched off with controller.
11. Common failure analysis and elimination
methods
Because advanced technology of single chip processor is
adopted for the controller, which has rich function of
self-diagnose and self-protection for quite convenience of
use and maintenance. Common failures are as following.

Pump and Valve Control Box
OPERATION SPECIFICATION

1. General
The control box of pump and valves is accessories of
DHTW-HT-03A high pressure water-based mist fire fighting
system which is linkage mechanism between local fire alarm
controller of the system and sprinkler pump, electrical valves of
piping.
When fire alarm is occurred, the control box receive the
command of local fire alarm controller and to open the valves of
piping relative fire alarm section and to send out audible and
visual for relative section and to start sprinkler pump to go on
local fire fighting.
2. Main Functions
(1) To supply power for high pressure water-based mist
fire fighting system, electric valves of piping, each
local fire alarm.
(2) To receive water mist fire fighting signal by remote
starting from local fire alarm controller, then the
control box send out DC24V power to relative section
automatically and to send out audible and visual alarm,
same time to open electric valves and to delayed-start
pump; if stop the operation, the action will be canceled.
(3) To transmit arrival signal on position of electric valve
via alarm circuit bus back to local fire fighting alarm
controller.
(4) To set up local emergency start / stop buttons of pump,
when the pump can’t be started automatically, manual

position on manual / automatic converter of the
controller, then to start pump manually for fire fighting.

AC 380V, 3P, 50Hz, for pump;
AC 220V, 1P, 50Hz, for valves and audible and visual

(4) Power consumption for pump : <10kW, AC 380V, 3P,
50Hz.
(5) Power consumption for electric valve: 1A, AC220V, 1P,
50Hz.

Transportation, Store, Unpack and Check
The controller is stored after routine test, the store conditions

are under normal atmospheric conditions, normal temperature
and dry air inside room, store time limit is 6 months.
Packing work shall accord with manufacture’s standard. In
transportation course shall avoid inverting and heavy pressure.
Transport tools may be train, motor vehicle, airplane and ship
etc..
Operation shall be in progress according to the operation
specification after unpack, its result shall accord with the
demands of feathers and functions stipulated of the
specification.

Service Guide
If user install or operate correctly according to the
specification but the quality problem is occurred，our company
is responsible for free maintenance work within 12 months (i.e.
guarantee period ).
The starting and commissioning of engineering shall be
finished by technical personnel of technical service department
or assigned maintenance service place.
The product is occurred quality problem after the guarantee
period or because user not be used properly, our company will
