The Australian Outback is a very big place.

It went on as far as the eye could

see. I tried to start the car again, but the engine died. ‘That’s it’, said Jez. ‘What
do we do now?’ He was starting to panic. ‘Just wait’, I replied calmly. ‘And if
nobody comes? It’s hot out here and we only have one bottle of water.’ ‘Look’,
I replied angrily, ‘I don’t know, OK? Let’s just hope someone comes along .’
That’s when we noticed the small sign a few hundred metres down the road.
We ran over to it and read: ‘William’s Creek 20 km.’. We could walk there …,’ I
thought. The road was long and tiring. The sun was hot and the water was
running out. The forces were leaving me, and I had to continue. Suddenly a car
stopped next to me. The man in the car was very kind. He took us back and
fixed the car, because he turned out to be a master. He also gave us ten bottles
of water. We took the dusty road again.
