Analyze the motions well.
Interpret the motion based on how an ordinary intelligent person would interpret it.
Opposition
Leader of Opposition
I. Restate the government’s stance
II. Burden (What is your real burden based on your interpretation of the
motion?) – include clash
III. Rebuttals and concessions (We concede to the fact that… but…)
IV. Counter-policy/ Maintain status quo
A. Mechanism
B. Comparative analysis (Prove why your policy is better than the
government’s)
C. Loopholes of the government’s policy
D. If you maintain status quo, prove why the current solution is fine or there
is no problem in the status quo. So there is no need to change anything.
V. Arguments - Explain each argument, give examples, tie back to motion
A. Engage with the arguments presented by the government
B. Even-if, not true rebuttals (for engagement)
VI. Tie back to the motion

II. Restate your team’s case (May change places with III-Rebuttals)
III. Rebuttals (Before I proceed, a couple responses/ rebuttals…)

IV. Arguments (may present the necessity, beneficiality and practicability of the
policy; make sure your arguments are distinct from the LO’s) - Explain each
argument, give examples, tie back to motion
V. Tie back to the motion (So what? What is the relevance of your arguments?)
