KINS 4306 Internship Spring 2021

1/31/21

Weekly Journal #2

Throughout this week I was able to come into the LEC building and really start my

internship there. This week has been busy. On Monday, the other intern and I are assigned with

the guys and we got to know them and get the feel on how things will be going there. We went to

sunset fields and did some exercise with them such as walking. We then left after an hour and

came back and ate lunch with them. After lunch the other intern (Josh) and I went on zoom and

hosted brain games with them which is a fun program they have every day that is used to help

expand their brains and help them with memorization, matching, problem solving, etc. Once

everyone left, we went to Lowes with Barbara Coleman to get materials for our MLK event that

was on Saturday which consisted of volunteers helping out making corn hole boards, benches,

and tables. For Tuesday, we went with the guys to Lockerly and did some gardening and learning

about the environment. After that we had lunch with them and was hanging out and figuring out

what game to play for brain games. We ended up playing wheel of fortune and split the people

up into 3 groups, the people online, one half of the girls in activity center, and the other half on

the other side of activity center. It went great and I would love to do that again for sure. The

people usually get picked up around 2 and that’s when we usually finish the games. On

Wednesday we went with the guys to a gym with had basketball courts and was shooting hoops

and walking laps. I think they enjoyed that a lot and I would love to do that again. When we got

back we ate lunch with them and then got prepared for brain games. After lunch we did

Pictionary which is we draw something and they guess what it is. They did a great job at it and
that’s one game they like the most. On Thursday we were going to the Worley center which is an

area that has hiking, fishing, and other outdoor activities. When we got there it was closed so it

was disappointing. Josh and I ended up going back and hanging out with the girls and help them

with some arts and crafts and ran some errands. Since the guys were gone we ended up going to

Bodyplex to get some equipment that they have for us and we brought it back and disinfected it

all. On Friday we were with the guys and did some exercise with them in the morning. Since it

was Friday, the guys did not do much except go to their greenhouse in back yard and was

working on it. While they were busy, Josh and I went to Lowes to get the wood for our corn hle

project and went with Jay Warren to his place to cut the wood and pile it up in the back of his

truck. That lasted most of the day. We were getting ready for the MLK event and got everything

set for Saturday morning. For Saturday, we met in the morning with people from the Give center

and volunteers and began our projects. We made 4 corn hole boards, 8 benches, and 8 tables.

This project was very fun and successful and it was a great event. The ended up painting the corn

hole boards GCSU colors and kept it all inside to dry. This week/weekend was very fun and im

excited to continue interning at the LEC.
