Weekly Journal #7
Throughout this week, it was a little different than normal. Due to a COVID outbreak that
occurred at the LEC, we had to do virtual zoom for this week as everyone went to get tested and
get shots etc. We had about 15-20 people on zoom which is good but we normal have more in
person. Throughout this week we made it work and the interns and I were the ones who hosted
the whole time. On Monday, we had Monday madness which consisted us talking about COVID
and the things to do to stay safe and clean, a kahoot about the interns, and finally we had Abigail
Hasty host an hour as we started our project on health promoting. The hour consisted of her
talking about the color of the rainbow when it comes to foods and their benefits. Our goal was to
show them the importance of the fruits, vegetables, grains, and proteins and how there are
alternatives to foods. After Monday madness we had lunch with them and then had brain games
which was 10 strikes. On Tuesday did some arts and crafts and some music activity before lunch.
We then ate lunch with them and did some brain games which was wheel of fortune. We had all
the brain games sent to us so we were prepared to have them ready on our laptops. On
Wednesday we did some spiritual matters which we talked about baptism, then we did some fun
games with them before lunch. During lunch I showed them around Jekyll Island since I went
home due to the outbreak. I showed them the beach and the sea turtle center and they enjoyed
that a lot. After lunch we did a new game which is spotting the difference between 2 photos and I
felt like they enjoyed that a lot. We will probably do more of that when we return next week in
person. On Thursday, we did some arts and craft and some more music activities then got ready
for lunch. We all had social hour and showed them some more of Jekyll Island. For brain games
we did jeopardy on cartoon characters and I felt like that was one of the bets ones to do with
them since most of them like to watch cartoons. On Friday we had a more fun and chill day
which consisted of just me hosting it since the other interns had to go back to the LEC to work
on the checker boards. We ended up watching a movie on YouTube then did social hour which
consisted of me showing them more of Jekyll. After lunch we did brain games to end off the day.
Brain games was 10 strikes again but the category was characters. I feel like characters or music
is their favorite so we tried to show most of that this week to ease off their minds due to COVID.
This week was different for sure but I can’t wait to start back on Monday in person and see
everyone again. We strive to make sure that everyone is healthy and safe and to continue
wearing our masks and staying social distant in the best way possible.
