Weekly Journal #8
For week 8 of internship, we were able to come back to the LEC after dealing with the
COVID outbreak and everyone was able to come back. WE were able to go back to our normal
routine this week. For Monday we had our Monday Madness and had Abigail Hasty come in and
do an hour of health promotion which is part of our project. She talked about physical activity
and got them involved in doing some exercise and fun stuff for the hour. We also did some trivia
and games before lunch. We then ate lunch with everyone and worked on the checker board that
we made outside using concrete. We have the pieces painted as well, but we need to wait for
everything to dry and re coat it next week. For Tuesday we had some art activity and I hosted
therapeutic drumming with 6-8 of the girls and did some memorization with beats and other cool
activities. I had social hour so I was with the people on zoom as we ate lunch and showed them
some cool pictures and music. After lunch we did brain games that consisted of jeopardy with
cartoon characters. On Wednesday we did some workouts with the guys an then did some art
project with the girls. We ate lunch with the guys then got ready for some more brain games. The
brain games was something new and we did spotting the difference between 2 photos and they
enjoyed that a lot. I would say hosting the games is the best for sure. On Thursday we did more
morning workouts with the guys then did some more work on the checker boards. We ended up
removing a pull up bar from outside and we are going to make it into something else. After
working on it we ate lunch with everyone outside then got ready for some more brai games. WE
played wheel of fortune which is one of their favorite games. After brain games we got some
limbs cut up so we can use the concrete slab and make it into another game like bowling to other
games. On Friday we got the limbs move out and worked a little bit more on the checker board.
After that we did some activities with the people online such as teaching them about st. patricks
day and did some reading from where we left off. After reading everyone went outside and we
had some burgers and hot dogs for lunch then got ready for brain games. We did some Pictionary
to end off the day and some music with the people on zoom. This week was fun and I was happy
to be back at the LEC and being able to see everyone happy and healthy. Next week we will
continue working on the games outside and hopefully it’ll get done soon so that they can play
