KINS 4306 Internship Spring 2021

4/10/21

Weekly Journal #12

Throughout this week at the LEC, we all came back in person and had a successful week.

For Monday, we went to Lockerly for recreational therapy, arts and crafts and nutrition

education. The other intern and I did recreational therapy that consisted of some outdoor games

like crocket and ladder ball. Right next to us was the arts and crafts and they were working on

painting beads for their art picture. We would rotate every 40-45 minutes as the other group was

with another intern discussing nutrition and providing good information on the benefits of eating

some healthy foods. We stayed there till lunch time and came back to work on some projects

such as checker board, and some gardening items. On Tuesday we had the normal morning

workouts with the guys and I got prepared for my therapeutic drumming. There was not that

many people there for drumming but I still made it work with the people online as well. After

drumming I hosted social hour and ate lunch with them. We then had brain games that consisted

of jeopardy and did some music at the end. On Wednesday we did the morning workouts and the

other intern and I worked on cutting some wood to make legs for this gardening thing. We then

screwed the legs in and spray painted the sides so that it would be ready to be painted. After that

we had lunch with the girls outside and did some brain games outside. We did Pictionary and it

was fun since it was nice out. After brain games we ended off the day with some music and got

ready for the next day. On Thursday it was a fun day. We spent most of the day outside playing

recreational games such as corn hole, ladder ball, crocket, bowling and some other fun games.

We also made some tie dye bandanas for them and had a cookout for lunch. After lunch we did a
musical hoops game that consisted of prizes. I hope we are able to do more stuff like that again.

On Friday we had a fun day that consisted of some arts and craft and some games. We did some

reading and ate lunch with the girls. After lunch we did wheel of fortune for brain games and

ended off the day with more music. This week was fun and I hope the weather is good enough so

we do more outdoor activities because staying inside all day can be tough and we strive to get

them more active especially during this pandemic.
