Friday Full Virtual:

Part 3:
1) What do you see and hear in the hallways?
a) Teachers are in the hallways doing hall duty and greeting students
as they come inside their classrooms. There is a calm chatter
during passing periods, but nothing close to how it used to be when
the school was operating at full capacity.
2) What do you see and hear from classrooms as you walk by them?
a) The classrooms are mostly pretty quiet because there are not a lot
of students in each classroom. I hear teachers teaching and Zooms
making noises. I also hear teachers getting their students started
on activities via Canvas.
3) What do you see and hear in the main office?
a) I hear both Ms. Chaq and Ms. Martha answering phones and
talking to families. At Belzer, we have a large population of
students/families that speak Spanish, and Ms. Martha takes those
calls. Ms. Chaq is supporting teachers, students, and families that
come into the office.
4) Where do you see students or teachers grouped together? What do they
seem to be talking about?
a) Due to COVID, most people keep to themselves, but there are
teachers that turn to each other and talk in the hallways-just small
talk. Students aren’t really grouping anywhere either because there
are not that many of them. However, I have heard conversations
about snacks, COVID, and lunch.
5) What do you see showcased throughout the school?
a) Belzer has always had really nice frames to put student artwork in.
The Art teacher changes these out about once a month.
Additionally, other bulletin boards have different student work on
them as well as boards showing the diversity of students.
6) Where are the lounges and conversation spaces located? Who is there?
What is happening?
a) The teacher’s lounge is located right off of the cafeteria. Today they
were celebrating February birthdays and had treats available for
staff. In this space, there are also areas to warm your lunch and
vending machines for snacks. Teachers are talking to each other as
they prepare their lunch.
7) How are teachers’ work spaces organized? Do they have spaces for
meeting and talking? What do they look like?
a) Prior to COVID, teachers would meet in each other's room for PLC.
However, now they all meet via Zoom.
8) Where is the office in relation to other spaces? Is it organized for
efficiency? For welcoming others?
a) The office is at the front of the building with the receptionist and
attendance office right next to each other at the front. Families and
students can easily access the attendance office to drop off or pick
up their student. It is located directly inside Door 1.
9) How are departments or teams organized in the building? What evidence
do you see that teams of teachers work together?
a) Teachers work in both departments and teams at the same time.
Wednesday morning PLC is devoted to the team, composed of a
representative from each subject and the support personnel
assigned to that team. On Thursdays, the grade level department
meets together to discuss planning and pacing.
10) What are the overall conditions for student learning in this building?
a) The overall conditions for student learning in this building are
present, positive interactions with adults in the building. Students
also are able to see themselves in the school building they attend.
There is work of their peers and themselves posted on every wall
and around every corner. Despite COVID, I see students talking to
each other in the hallways, teachers trying to navigate virtual group
work, and everyone trying to keep school as normal as possible for
students.
11) What are the overall conditions for teacher learning in this building?
a) The overall conditions for teacher learning in this building are very
collaborative and supportive. We belong to three different PLCs on
a regular basis that involve different groups of teachers. Teachers
seem pleasant to each other and willing to help one another out
with things.
