SIGNATURE ASSIGNMENT BUDGET NARRATIVE AND CHART 2
Budge Narrative
The expenditures listed in Table I are necessary to help students obtain the goal of not
only completing their slam poem, but also in reaching the project’s overall goal of educating
students on the significance of stereotypes as it relates to social injustice. To explain, the chrome
books that double as a tablet are essential for students to engage in the digital aspect of the
project. This can range from the students posting to platforms such as PadLet, JamBoard,
Yellowdig, and Peardeck. Additionally, the Chromebook tablets are important for students
Additionally, the miscellaneous items such as pencils, pens, highlighters, folders, and bins are
necessary for student’s involvement in the mini lessons within the larger project. This includes
highlighting instances of perspective and point-of-view, taking notes at their field trip to the
Community College, completing compare and contrast charts, and their overall day-to-day
activities. The key element here is the expenditures pertaining to the fieldtrip. Although the
students could just conduct their research with students on campus and develop their poems with
such information, this limits their field of view. Many students in the community are from very
similar backgrounds and therefore the interview pool may be limited if we do not extend our

research beyond the classroom. Allowing students to step into the shoes of perspectives different
than their own is essential to the comprehension of the content for students. By taking these field
trips, students not only develop a sense of community but are given a very first-hand realistic
account of point-of-view and its impact on stereotypes that the high school campus simply
cannot provide. This is also very necessary for the community to understand that these are issues
prevalent to their teens. Student involvement in political discussions, involvement, and action
may also see a spike following this project. Overall, these expenditures are all necessary to
produce the desired outcome of the project to enable students to understand stereotypes and
produce a type of language arts that speaks to the community with the power of spoken word.
