INTRODUCTION:
Solar Operated Pesticide Sprayer is a pump running on electricity generated by
photovoltaic panels or the thermal energy available from collected sunlight as opposed to grid
electricity or diesel run water pumps. The operation of solar powered pumps is more economical
mainly due to the lower operation and maintenance costs and has less environmental impact than
pumps powered by an internal combustion engine (ICE). Solar pumps are useful where grid
electricity is unavailable and alternative sources (in particular wind) do not provide sufficient
energy. The solar panels make up most (up to 80%) of the systems cost. The size of the PV-
system is directly dependent on the rating of the pump, the amount of water that is required
(m³/d) and the solar irradiance available. The solar sprayer has many advantages. Besides
reducing the cost of spraying, there is a saving on fuel/petrol. Also, the transportation cost for
buying petrol is saved. The solar sprayer maintenance is simple. There is less vibration as
compared to the petrol sprayer. The farmer can do the spraying operation by himself without
engaging labour, thus increasing spraying efficiency. As solar pesticide sprayer is used once or
twice in a month, in other days we can use it for the lighting and fan. And also we have
implemented solar tracker to get the maximum efficiency.

METHODOLOGY:
The first unit of proposed system is energy conversion unit. The energy conversion can
be done by two modes such as direct supply mode and solar energy mode. In case of direct
supply mode, the single phase Alternating Current (A.C) supply was converted into Direct
Current (D.C) supply with the help of transformer 230/12 V, full wave bridge rectifier chip (i.e.
KBL08) and filter capacitor 2200uf. This can be used, wherever the solar energy is not available
i.e. during rain and cloudy weather conditions. In case of solar energy mode, solar energy
obtained by the sun is converted into electrical energy using solar panel by photovoltaic effect.
The output of energy conversion was used to charge a deep cycle battery.
The output of battery was connected to DC pump through ON/OFF control. In this work, DC
pump is used because of the advantages such as less in noise, longer in life, maintenance free, motor
speed can be varied in the larger extent by varying the supply voltage and self-lubricated. Pump is used to
suck the spraying liquid from the sprayer tank and spray it through nozzle. As the spraying is done
once in a month for other day’s solar power can be used to charge the battery and will be used to
supply power for bulb and fan. To get maximum power using solar energy, we have installed a
solar tracking system.

RESULT & CONCLUSION:

The Proposed Solar device works on the Photovoltaic principle which is ecofriendly, low
cost and very much helpful in remote location where supply is unavailable this device reduce the
human effort and increases the efficiency of system. Solar sprayer can also be used for purposes
such as Garden, Cleaning of vehicle etc. This system is tested with AC charging as well as solar
charging. From the results it was found that the current and time required for charging the full
battery capacity of 12V, 2.5Ah by analytically and practically is 3 hours and 5.2 hours
respectively. The initial cost of the proposed system is little more as compared to conventional
sprayer but the running cost of the system is very less. The developed system used for spraying
the fertilizer, pesticides, fungicides and painting. When the system is not for spraying, it can be
used for lighting bulb and for fan. To get maximum power using solar energy, we have installed
a solar tracking system.

FUTURE SCOPE:
1. Overall weight of the tank can be minimized by molding techniques.
2. The battery backup can be increased by using PWM techniques.
