Rationale

Both my study guide and self-monitoring checklist support the intellectual, social, career,

and personal development of my students. The study guide meets the specific needs of the

students who have an Individualized Education Plan. The students who were given the study

guide benefit from getting their vocabulary words in advance to look over. They also perform

much better intellectually when they are able to complete fill-in notes in advance. Additionally,

the study guide I provided encouraged the students to ask for help if they were not sure of

something on the guide that was given to them.

The self-monitoring checklist I created was a tool that was beneficial to all of the students

in the class. The self-monitoring checklist allowed the students to think critically about where

they were at with the material and reflect upon their achievement levels. With the use of the self-

monitoring checklist, the students were also encouraged to ask for help, and they were given the

opportunity to individually suggest ways that they could do this. The self-monitoring checklist

that I created taught students the importance of self-reflection, which is not only beneficial to

them now, but it will also be beneficial to them down the road and in their future careers.
