IEP Meeting
th
6 -Grade Student
IEP meetings are typically in-person, but due to the pandemic, this meeting was virtual. The
meeting was held via Google Meet. Present at this meeting was the special education teacher,
Math teacher, Reading teacher, Speech Therapist, Vice Principal, and me.

The special education teacher led this meeting and introduced everyone. She started by
asking if any of the teachers wanted to add something before she began. The Math teacher, my
cooperating teacher, added that there were no issues and that the student participates in class. She
said that he is doing very well and that he has brought all of his grades up. The student currently
has an 'A' in Math, which is a strong point of his. Sometimes this student hesitates to participate,
but when he does he performs very well. However, the special education teacher added that this
is the opposite in her room. When pulled into the smaller setting, he is very quick to answer and
is much faster at responding compared to the other students in the class. He seems to be more
confident in the smaller group setting.
The reading teacher also mentioned that he frequently participates in her class. She also
believes that he benefits in the small group setting but added that he is doing very well. She said
that he is on top of his assignments and work.
The speech therapist then added her perspective. She said that the student attends speech
therapy with her once every week. Lately, they have been working on phoning awareness,
sequencing skills, and analyzing vowels. She said that he is doing very well and has come a long
way. She is very pleased with his progress.
The parent mentioned that she is very appreciative of everything that the teachers are
doing and that everyone is doing a great job. She said her son seems very happy.
The special education teacher then took the lead for the remainder of the meeting. She
confirmed that the student is doing very well and that he is always willing to try again when he is
asked to. The parent added that she is always telling him to slow down and take his time because
he likes to just get things done.
The special education teacher asked if there are any questions or concerns before she
highlights some of them. No one had anything to add. The following is the special education
teacher's notes:
 The student’s SDI will stay the same.
 He will still get extended time.
 He will continue to get immediate positive reinforcement.
 When Accelerated Reader comes back around, his requirements will continue to be
adjusted.
 He will receive two additional reading goals for this marking period as he has mastered
his previous goals.
 He will still receive graphic organizers (although he is not always seeking them out.)
 He will continue speech therapy once a week.
 He still does not qualify for extended school year.
 He spends roughly about one hour in the special education room every school day.
The special education teacher also added that he has made a very fluid adjustment from
elementary school to middle school. He is very independent and communicates his needs. She
said that he is a great kid with a great personality. He is always getting his work done and makes
connections from inside the classroom to outside of the classroom.
The special education teacher then said that she will be sending a document for everyone
who attended the meeting to sign. She also reminded the parent to mail in her signatures.
