births and lower infant mortality rates.

WIC encourages more nutritious food choices which has helped to


lower rates of anemia and encourages lifelong healthy eating
patterns for families.

Children participating in WIC are more likely to be receive routine


vaccinations and yearly check-ups.

Children whose mothers participated in WIC score higher on


assessments of mental development at age 2 and later performed
better on reading assessments in school.
