“Banking Concept of Education”

According to the Article Paulo Freire the 'Banking' Concept of Education, Freire passionately

expounds on the mechanical flaw in the current system, and offers an approach that he believes

medicates the learning-teaching disorder in the classroom. I think Mr. Paulo Freire focus to talk

about the current consciousness state of the students. The consciousness of the students is the key

to keeping them oppressed, by being able to change their consciousness it makes the students

easier to control.

To solve the problem about the education system, he also offers a solution which involves a

“problem-posing education”. In this system the roles of teachers and students become mixed and

left more open to interpretation. Both the teacher and student actively participate in effective

communication to gain an understanding of the information being taught instead of just

memorization. According to him, “Knowledge emerges only through invention and re-invention.

The Banking Concept of Education” he also proposes a way to improve education by introducing

us to the “Problem-Posing Approach”. By doing such, he informs us that this approach is an

alternative learning method that is efficient and an effective solution to the banking approach. I

personally believe that all students should be taught with the Problem-Posing Approach since the

Banking Approach is not a sufficient way of learning. I can guarantee that almost every student

has been a part of this “traditional” educational system as they are just taught to memorize
certain material until the test day comes. As an undergraduate student, I can say that I have

witnessed my education become a test of remembering everything that was in a PowerPoint.

In conclusion as a future Educator this is very important for us to know this because we all know

21st century is now a Learner-centered education it uses interactive strategies to engage the

students and develop their abilities. In that way It also helps students develop skills such as

decision making and problem solving, team work, and presentation skills.
