NATIONAL DAY 国庆日

During the school holidays, Imran went to watch the National Day parade 游 行 at
Putrajaya. He took some pictures of the parade to send to his pen-pals 笔友 in Australia and
Japan. Many people took part in the grand parade. Imran was very excited to see it.

Among the photographs he took were of the police and soldiers. There were also
representatives 代 表 from various 各 种 government departments 政 府 部 门 such as the
Defence Ministry, schools and organizations. They looked smart in their uniforms.

He saw the king, the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Mahathir and other ministers
standing proudly on a grandstand 主台 and watching the parade. He also saw many tourists
among the crowd 人 群 . Many people were waving 晃 着 the Jalur Gemilang. Everyone
enjoyed watching the parade. It was a very meaningful 有意义 day for all Malaysians.

Read the passage below carefully and answer the questions that follow.

Cleanliness 卫生 is very important when we handle 准备 food. There are many ways
to ensure 确保 that the food we prepare is clean and healthy 健康 to eat.

First, we must wash all fruits and vegetables carefully before eating or cooking. We
must never eat unwashed 未洗 apples and oranges or unwashed beans and carrots. The reason
is they may still contain pesticides 杀虫剂 which may harm 危害 us.

Not only must we wash all pots and pans but also dishes, forks and spoons. We must
use clean water and soap to do this. Clearly, this will help remove all germs and bacteria.

Personal cleanliness 个 人 卫 生 is also very important. Make sure that your hair is
covered before you begin to cook. Always wash your hands with soap and water before you
prepare or serve food.

Finally, remember to keep all food covered. Also keep gardens and drains clean.
Remember! Rubbish attracts 吸引 flies and rats. Unclean surroundings 不卫生环境 too, may
lead to diseases 疾病.
