Unit: Web Design and Development


This activity will help you meet these educational goals:
 Content Knowledge—You will assess the design of different websites.
 Inquiry—You will perform an investigation in which you will collect information and make
observations.
 21st Century Skills—You will employ online tools for research and analysis, apply
creativity and innovation, and communicate effectively.

Introduction
There are many websites available on the Internet with different content. These websites
present information in different ways depending on the audience and the type of information.
Most websites follow certain guidelines of design to produce the best result. In this activity,
you will choose a few websites with good design and write about them.

Directions and Analysis


Task 1: Collecting Information About Different Types of Websites
Identify three good websites related to three different categories; for example, an ecommerce
website (.com), an educational website (.edu), and a government website (.gov). Write about
the basic elements these websites use. Record the basic data such as domain name,
website owner, central theme, basic elements, and so on.

Task 2: Describing Website Design Features


Identify the main reasons you admire each site (for example, the spacing between topics, the
grouping of topics, the clarity of information contained in each page, the number of visitors to
the site, easy navigation, and so on). Describe what the developer did to achieve the design
and functionality you admire.
