The verb ‘to be ( am, is, are )’ has Was she pregnant?
If the verb ends in -ie, remove the ie

Using the verb ‘To Be’ in the simple
past tense:
POSITIVE FORM: Subject + TO BE
(was/were) + Complement
NEGATIVE FORM: Subject + TO BE
(was/were) + NOT + Complement Use of gerund (ing) in verbs
QUESTION FORM: TO BE (was/were) + In most verbs only "ing" is added.
Subject + Complement + ? ask → asking
If the verb ends in a vowel + consonant,
Sentences: the consonant must be doubled before
I was eating when he arrived. adding "ing".

If the verb ends in -e, remove the e before

adding "ing".
