Tools, Equipment, and Testing Devices

Tools, equipment and testing devices create signals and capture electronic signatures
from sensitive electronic networking equipment to trace faults, improve performance and
develop more efficient circuits, configurations, and energy-saving initiatives. Common
tools include cabling test kits, automatic testing equipment, signal generators, fiber
microscopes for fiber-optic troubleshooting, meters, crimpers, wiring instruments, and
testers. Meters include voltmeters, ohmmeters, EMF meters, LCR meters, ammeters,
and multi-meters to monitor current usage. Advanced testing gear proves essential when
developing circuits for IT networks. Analyzers can test circuit logic, functionality, spectral
energy signatures, and protocol conformance. Even simple static meters could provide
sound cost benefits by preventing dangerous static charges, which could cause extensive
damage to expensive networking equipment or losses of proprietary data.

Let’s Recall (Review)

Directions: Write the meaning of the following acronym
1. ST -
2. LC -
3. SC -
4. SMF -
5. BNC -

Let’s Understand
Materials, tools, equipment and testing devices.
The following tools and equipment are classified according to their
functions and uses

LAN CARD
It is a network interface card. This is a computer circuit board or card that is
installed in a computer so that it can be connected to a network.

SERVER
It is a part of a network. It is a special computer that users on the network can
success to carry out a particular job.

HUB/PORT
It is a connector on the back of a computer or other device. A port is either a
serial port or a parallel port.

MODEM
The modem is a device that allows a given computer to share data or
otherwise a device which let computers exchange information

SCANNER
It is an input device that read text or illustration printed on paper, translates
the information into a form that a computer can use

FLAT SCREW DRIVER

It is used to drive or fasten negative slotted screws

USB
Universal Serial Bus, a hardware interface for low-speed peripherals such as
the keyboard, mouse, joystick, scanner, printer and telephony devices.

PRINTER
It is a piece of hardware that produces a paper copy (also known as
‘hardcopy’) of the information generated by the computer.

RAM
Random Access Memory, is a primary memory. This memory is used
inside the computer to hold programs and data while it is running.

BIOS
Basic Input / Output System, chip that controls the most basic functions of the
computer and performs a self-test every time you turn it on.

FLASH DRIVE
RAM that can retain data without electrical power. It is widely used for BIOS
chips and for digital camera and digital music storage

VIDEO CAMERA
A camera using videotape: a camera that records onto videotape

LONG NOSE PLIERS

It is used for holding, bending and stretching the lead of electronics component
or connecting wire.

SOLDERING IRON
It is used to join two or more metal conductors with the support of soldering lead
melted around it.

DESOLDERING TOOL
It is used to unsolder unwanted parts or component in the circuit with the support
of soldering pencil.

PHILIPS SCREW DRIVER

It is used to drive or fasten positive slotted screws.

LAN TESTER
For RJ11,12,45 & BNC w/ Remote Unit This ergonomic tester is designed to test
most network cable wiring. You can either conduct an auto or manual test.

UTP
Unshielded Twisted Pair, is a popular type of cable used in computer
networking that consists of two shielded wires twisted around each

Let’s Apply
Using Testing tools and equipment.
Directions: Provide a situation wherein you can use the following testing tools and equipment.

1) 2) 3) 4) 5)

Let’s Analyze
Directions: Identify which of the following tools equipment, and
testing device to be used in a certain scenario.

_____________ 1. Layla wants to remove the screw on her desktop computer.

_____________ 2. Harith needs a tool to hold the wire while soldering that will
prevent him from being burn.
_____________ 3. Lily wants to test her newly made LAN cable what testing
material she need to use?
_____________ 4. You need to remove the solder to repair your motherboard
which tools should you use to support your soldering pen?
_____________ 5. Ysay wants to record her disassembling activity for her
assignment. What equipment she need to use?
